A small Farmer’s son to world’s Noblest Profession – An icon for his village

Every time I pass through the fields of my village I see my younger-self running through the crops, I see my father tilling the farms – the tree beneath which we enjoyed our tiffin prepared by my mother with so much love. Every time I pass through the fields of my village I see my younger-self running through the crops, I see my father tilling the farms – the tree beneath which we enjoyed our tiffin prepared by my mother with so much love. That Tree still stands there, it’s shade still the same, still soothing even in the blazing sun.

I, Gurmandeep Singh, a Lecturer at Bhai Maha Singh College of Engineering, Muktsar now, go through this often – for these are some of my personal moments I am able to connect to from the days of my schooling at Akal Academy, Muktsar run by The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib.
Child of a farmer S. Daljit Singh & a housewife mother, I was lucky to have an educated father who switched from farming to teaching in early nineties & around the same time I was admitted to Akal Academy Muktsar – which has been the blessing of my life, which gave me a strong foundation to keep moving forward & be where I stand today.

I have several precious moments from school that often pervade my mind, be it Principal Sukhraj Madam’s advocacy or theorems of our Maths teacher Jayasiman Sir. Tuitions were something we learnt about only after school, at school the over-time classes & those extra hours put in by the teachers were part of our routine which never made us require or even feel the need of any external support for academics.

At my village Warring, while I was luckily going to school, the case wasn’t the same for other kids – while most of them were assisting their parents at fields. Few who were attending other schools would often quit upon failing at first place; this was like a tradition ‘the moment you fail in any class, it would mean schooling is over & work at field begins’. Now, over all these years, I am able to see the transformation that Akal Academies are bringing.

Amongst my other favorites were Baldev Singh Sir & Surinder Kumar Sharma Sir – who were my Physics teacher & Rajinder Kumar Sir who taught me about elements in chemistry classes. After completing my +2 from the academy I pursued B.Tech (ME) from Guru Teg Bahadur College after which I got placement at Bhai Maha Singh College of Engineering, where I am currently employed as a lecturer since 2009.

Presently, I am seeking to switch to a Govt. job like my father; in future I have plans to start my own work or a small business.

Apart from academics, I sincerely credit Akal Academies for spiritually connecting me to Almighty through medium of path; whatever spirituality is imbibed in me is from the Academy, ours is a typical Jatt Family, my routine habit of doing path & the strength & confidence it infuses into me comes only through Akal Academy.

For my village, I wish to appeal to the parents to must send their children to schools & provide them education on first priority over work. Rest I would want every child, especially at the villages to study at Akal Academy not just for the reasons of good academic foundation & spirituality but also for the proficiency in English that I noticed in the students of the Akal Academies which is missing at other schools.

Best Wishes & Loads of Love… Gur-Fateh.

Regards
Gurmandeep Singh

During the first phase of the recent Pulse Polio Campaign of 2014, Akal Academy, village Boparai Kalan observed a Polio Immunization Camp where young children were given Polio Drops to immunize them against the deadly polio disease.

The camp was observed under the Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib’s policy of overall welfare & development of children wherein physical health of the children is also given equivalent priority.

“As we all know, polio is such a deadly disease; it can be prevented if we immunize the children with these polio drops till the age of 5 – most of the parents are aware of the disease these days, but parents, especially in the rural areas are hesitant to take their children to the camp. Hence, we decided to organize a camp at the school so no child remains at risk”, cited the Headmistress Amandeep Kaur whilst proving details about the camp.

Son of Soil from Pilibhit becomes a most Popular Lecturer at Springdale College

Hi, I am Gursewak Singh from Pilibhit, UP. Akal Academy Gomti, the name that defined my destiny, my education – my today & whatever I will be tomorrow. Being born into the family of a small farmer, I could have never imagined a life I have today, had it not been for my school that […]

Hi, I am Gursewak Singh from Pilibhit, UP. Akal Academy Gomti, the name that defined my destiny, my education – my today & whatever I will be tomorrow. Being born into the family of a small farmer, I could have never imagined a life I have today, had it not been for my school that instilled education & values in my life. I would have been no different from my Dad, who strived hard through his life just to afford my education.

Currently, when I see myself being a Physics lecturer at Springdale college – as each time I step into a classroom, my mind quickly gives me a flashback of my entire life up till now & and then I quickly recall the blissful contribution of Akal Academy & Eternal University at Baru Sahib that gives me strength to keep moving forward & energize my lectures at the college during my lectures.

If I recall my childhood, the schooling isn’t something that came easily to me; there weren’t any schools in my native place Pilibhit, so I was admitted to the Akal Academy Gomti, which was 40Kms away from my place. My entire childhood holds memories of financial crises & some sweet memories of me going to school with my father during the 40kms course each day, as he taught me the principles of life.

Back then, the Akal Academy Gomti was only up till class 10th, so as soon as I completed my 10th class I had to look for alternate options for +2 through some other private school as my father’s financial condition couldn’t support to send me to Baru Sahib; this was the most tough phase of my life, on one hand there was financial crisis & on the other my mother was detected with cancer & Doctors couldn’t save her unfortunately. The crisis gave a deeper hit to my father financial conditional as well as emotional breakdown for the entire family.

But, throughout all of this, I was fortunate to have had a strong foundation given by Akal Academy, wherein I received all-round development, I scored 86% in 10th & was also a pro-active participant in football – played cluster 4 times; at school, the teachers that played the most pivotal role in my life are Mr. Ashok Kumar , my class teacher & Rihan Raza Khan Sir, my sports P.T. teacher who contributed much towards whatever I am today.

Currently, alongside my Lecturer job at the college, I am preparing for Air Force exam – AFCAT as I desire to serve the Nation in Air Force. Life is much relaxed at home now, especially my father, since I am earning for the family now; for the greater part of my life I had always seen him worried & struggling for my education fees…but now, I feel much blessed now, thanks to Baru Sahib’s Eternal University where I did my B.Tech Engineering after which I got my current job at Springdale College.

For fellow students, parents of children at my native place – I deeply desire an Akal Academy be opened there as small children face a lot of difficulty joining school. Until this happens, I would recommend parents to send their young children to Baru Sahib & others (who are in 5th standard or above) can join Akal Academy in Gomti – it is the best place where overall development happens as I feel recreational activity is much important alongside academics for a healthy growth of children…Gur-Fateh!

The girl who stands for Selfless Service to others as her goal!

As I travel back into the days of my childhood, shuffling through the memory pages, I see my native village, which most of you probably would’ve never heard about – Shadihari Village. Shadihari village is a part of Sangrur Dist. but is so small & underdeveloped. I, Amanpreet Kaur, belong to a typical rural village […]

As I travel back into the days of my childhood, shuffling through the memory pages, I see my native village, which most of you probably would’ve never heard about – Shadihari Village. Shadihari village is a part of Sangrur Dist. but is so small & underdeveloped.

I, Amanpreet Kaur, belong to a typical rural village family, my father Rampal Singh is a farmer & mother is a house wife. As a child, I was fortunate enough to be able to move out of my village, for I was admitted to Akal Academy Muktsar, the only school wherein my education could begin to see light, I did my nursery & first class schooling from there, thereafter I was admitted to Akal Academy Cheema Sahib as my family had to move due to family problems. Most of my childhood saw financial family issues, my father sold his land to sponsor my education, if it wasn’t my father & support from my elder brother from Australia, I wouldn’t have been able to be where I stand today; my brother motivated me & gave me a heart to study.

The education, the foundation that Akal Academy run by Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib provided me, was such strong that next – after 3rd class I was able to jump to 6th class at Guru Teg Bahadur School in Patran City. My +2 was the best time of my life as I finally was at Baru Sahib where, after completing my +2 in medical from Akal Academy, I was also able to join Akal College of Nursing to pursue my B.Sc. in Nursing. After completing my B.Sc Nursing, I served at the college as a Teacher.

Now, I am currently all prepared to go to Australia to pursue my masters, so I can enhance my skills & give a strong start to my professional career wherein I can serve people. For all of this, I sincerely thank Baru Sahib, there is no parallel to the strength that Baru Sahib has instilled into me. It was for the Blessings, Love & Support of Baru Sahib that a girl like me was able to Top & receive a gold medal alongside scholarship for my graduation.

Now, when I visit my village, I see the difference, I see what I received from Baru Sahib – it’s the finer human qualities, that are I see invisible elsewhere, especially at my native village. I deeply desire development for my village, especially on the education front; I am constantly trying alongside my father to arrange for land in the village through his administration contacts so that an Akal Academy can be built there too.

The difference between children is huge – I see students of Baru Sahib, I see village – on one hand I see children with strong foundation, will power, aim, clear motive & extremely confident English speaking kids & on the other I see my innocent, uninformed & aimless children who seek help. For an instance, I am the only girl in the village who is educated – I get respect for that, but, more than feeling proud about it, I feel the need to inspire parents & children – every time I learn someone has started sending their children to Baru Sahib school, I feel happy. I prepared a stage performance for them & also appeared in Indian Idol famed Davinder Pal Singh’s ‘Vidya Vichari’ video with the same motive.

Akal Academy transforms, they taught us ‘naam simran, nitmen’ – they infuse spirituality & tell us to be good i.e. being at bay from ‘nindya’ (speaking bad about someone) & ‘chugli’ (speaking figuratively to create differences amongst people). I feel happy now that the change is coming, rather transformation is coming, the people in village are doing better now, I am sure other villages are improving too with spread of Akal Academies; people of my village, who get inspired often contact for inquiry, so I am assured it’s all happening everywhere…Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh…

Please do support girls like me so that rural children also get an equal opportunity to study and flourish.
