Shimla: Strictly adhering to the minimum standards and procedure for the award of Ph D and M Phil degrees laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (HPPEIRC) has entertained the request of only five out of 16 private universities and approved intake of 66 Ph D and 53 M Phil students.

The private universities were keen on enrolling students for Ph D and M Phil, but most of them failed in fulfilling the criteria and in maintaining the quality of research, hence the commission did not make any compromise with the norms, sources in the commission said.

The rules provide that “all universities, deemed universities and colleges, institutions of national importance shall lay down criteria for the faculty to be recognised as research supervisor for Ph D and M Phil programmes and no university or institution shall conduct these programmes through distance mode of education.” Further, no supervisor should have more than eight Ph D and five M Phil students at any point of time.

To fulfil these conditions, the universities required regular faculty and qualified teachers and as such the requests of most of the private universities were not entertained.

Solan based Shoolini University got the approval to intake 30 Ph D and 53 M Phil students, while Eternal University, Baru Sahib in Sirmaur district, Career Point University in Hamirpur district and Maharaja Agrasen University at Baddi (Solan) were given approval for intake of 14, 10 and seven Ph D students, respectively while Bahara University at Kandaghat in Solan district was given approval to admit five Ph D students.

The Shoolni University got approval for 15 M Phil students each in chemistry, bio tech and micro-biology and eight in physics. Besides intake of eight students in Ph D in pharmaceuticals, five each in chemistry and bio-technology, four in micro-biology, three each in food technology and mechanical engineering and two in botany were approved by the Regulatory Commission.

Eternal University got the approval to intake six Ph D in bio-technology, three each in physics and chemistry and two in economics while Career Point University got the approval for intake of four Ph D students in physics, three in chemistry, two in civil engineering and one in management.

Maharaja Agrasen University got approval for intake of three management, two tourism and travel management and one each in physics and mathematics at Ph D level, while Bahara University was allowed to take three students in pharmaceuticals and two in mechanical engineering.

Education in the Valley of Baru Sahib

To find an environment conducive of registering excellence in research through academic education, the Parents of Himachal will need to swoop their heads in Sirmaur District’s Baru Sahib. Here, the semester of excellent education is observed and a strong foundation of values, giving meaning to the lives of the students, can be witnessed.

Starting out of a small campaign, Baru Sahib today is such heritage of Social, National, Human, Cultural and Religious values where the childhood blooms and a youth’s mind becomes a symbolic image of talent emerging through the mirror of endless possibilities. Solidifying the relation of the service with the society, The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib is imbibing Human Values to around 5500 students in its lap and around 65,000 students studying in 129 Akal Academies across North India.

Education in the Valley of Baru SahibWe believe that if anyone in Himachal is looking for a way to polish the personality of their children, especially girls, then there is only one choice – Akal Academy, Baru Sahib. This is because – over here neither the curriculum frustrates nor do the classrooms frighten.

Following the discipline & life values derived from Indian Societies, one of the running schools follows CBSE Hindi Curriculum whereas another is an international level school representing International Baccalaureate (IB) module. The students of the schools defy all knowledge barriers at the 40,000+ books large library at the campus. Over here the curiosity does not remain limited to curriculum; available material covers a variety of subjects & topic related to various interests of the students from around the world. The students infuse life into the campus through their interest in Games and creativity in Music and Art.

Outside the schooling division, the student community floor discovers new skies every now and then through the Eternal University. The special thing is that the girls only B.Tech, Nursing & B.Ed Campuses represent the account of their dedication. The whole atmosphere turns into such family that entire Himachal feels proud about this educational institution. This is also because of the opportunities visible after education. Hypothesis is visible through the campus. Student Community, Teachers’ Division, Administration and all the Supporters together make strength of around 7000 people; a strong feeling of fraternity & oneness prevails amongst all.

Describing the picture of Social Harmony and Human Uplift, several messages and guiding principles compliment the entire environment. Himachal’s largest solar energy power plant creates a great impression with its presence whereas on the other hand several cities of Himachal gain vital knowledge from the water purification plant that is installed here. Miscellaneous dimensions are deployed in the practice of all-round development of the students. With arrangements better than any hostel in Himachal and high standards of food makes Baru Sahib’s Academic Environment Ranked at No.1. It can be said that in a private way, a Trust, absorbing into its cover the incomprehensibility of Sirmaur, has given birth to the piousness of Human Uplift. If such institutes are nurtured in all four directions of the nation, then, no doubt the youth will find the motive to progress and the path for it.

The irony is that Baru Sahib is teaching India the lesson of winning the world, but outside – the roads of Sirmaur are taking us towards extreme hopelessness. Can’t we even build good roads between Solan-Rajgarh to Baru Sahib or Naahan to Baru Sahib? Because of the goodness of such institutes, Himachal can very well have the branding of being a prosperous state, provided the government understands the importance of these things!

Rocky Rocks – a passionate educator and an exceptional teacher at Akal College of Nursing – Baru Sahib!

The Drexel team has put the Akal College of Nursing at Baru Sahib on the world map in context by bringing latest innovation in Nursing Education (Nursing Informatics, Global Nursing and now Simulation) ,at the doorstep of this remote, deep rural pocket nestled in the North West Himalayas.

The pillar of this remarkable and unique beautiful relationship is Dr. Jill Derstine who has been persistently visiting Akal College of Nursing along with experts from various nursing specialties to teach the students and introduce new trends in field of nursing education through conferences and workshops three times ayear.

Dr. Rocky, the ultimate in simulation is a passionate educator and an exceptional teacher. He demonstrated how technology and education can be wed and students can learn to address critical clinical bed side situations amicably and efficiently. The sim man (mechanized mannequin with computerized function) was brought for demonstration by Laerdal medical. Two birthing units (to show case how deliveries can be conducted) have been donated by Drexel University USA to Eternal University. We are grateful for this warm gesture. I am sure this facility will go a long way to train the nurses to battle with the challenge of high Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) & Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in India because of the gap in providing obstetrics services in the rural belt of North India. Akal College of Nursing has taken up community nursing in villages around Baru Sahib to impact health care in this Himalayan region. The students take up one family and impart Health Education during their four years of stay at Akal College of Nursing.

I submit my thanks to Prof. Marylou the evergreen Nursing Educator who has been constant companion to Prof. Jill to establish Akal College of Nursing, the first Nursing College of Himachal Pradesh which is to offering B.Sc. & M.Sc. programme. Not to leave Prof. & Dean Gloria F. Donnelly who has been generous and magmanimous to serve the cause of Nursing Education to facilitate Drexel faculty to visit Nursing Colleges around the slobe for creatins world class slobal nurses.

I am Jaskirat Singh Mann from Muktsar, I did my entire schooling from the Muktsar Akal Academy and completed my 12th in the year 2008; it’s the most memorable time of my life as I topped in the medical stream amongst all Akal Academies during that year.

They say that anything that reaches its peak is bound to hit the opposite; my most memorable time too was followed by the most difficult phase of my life – in the year 2009 my father passed away. Coming from a typical middle class family life could’ve gotten very difficult if it wasn’t for my mother who happens to be in a Govt. Teaching Job; with grace of almighty, the bad phase was soon over and I soon joined Eternal University’s Akal College of Engineering & Technology at Baru Sahib where the same hybrid mix of spiritual & scientific education module, as followed at the Akal Academy, continued.

I pursued my B.Tech from ACET and with ‘Rab di Meher’, the very first Job offer that I got came from the prestigious Infosys, Mysore in February 2014 where I am presently recruited at the post of System Engineer, currently doing my practice under training phase.

I have spent a major part of my life with Baru Sahib’s Akal Academy and Akal College of Engineering & Technology and I would want to say that the school doing a great job in infusing the spiritual element alongside worldly education in the students, which is missing elsewhere.

On the career front, though I have not achieved or proved much in my life yet but I would still wish to convey to the fellow students that no matter where you come from or where you live, if you are on the righteous path and if you are dreaming big then there’s nothing that can stop you, any dream is achievable, if we keep our thinking limitless.

On the education from, in general I wish the gender gap between Boys and Girls soon reduces further and the quality of education, especially in the Rural and Remote regions, improves.

I also wish to pay my special regards to Baldev Sir at school, he taught us the laws of Physics in an exceptionally nice way, I believe he is remembered by every alumni of Muktsar Academy, besides I wish more progression & enhancements for Akal Academies and Colleges in the coming years and convey all the best to everyone connected to The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib for speedy achievement of their goal of reaching 500 Schools. Gur-Fateh!

Knitting the Framework of Success – Rajbeer Kaur

I am Rajbeer Kaur from Subhash Nagar, New Delhi, alumnus of Eternal University’s Akal College of Engineering & Technology (ACET), Baru Sahib – batch 2012, currently working as a .NET Software Programmer at ‘PYRAMID IT CONSULTANTS’ in Noida where I got placed through University’s Campus Placement Services post completion of my B.Tech in Computer Science.

The beginning of my relationship with Baru Sahib was spontaneous; whilst I was in search for a good college after my schooling, I randomly happened to discuss about colleges & courses with a friend’s mother, who happens to be working as a volunteer with The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib’s Office based in Rajouri Garden, New Delhi. She provided me little details about the place & I got so inspired and taken that I no longer had to make my mind amongst other options. In no time I was filling the admission application forms & got myself admitted there.

The place was fantastic beyond my expectations, for everything that I experienced at Baru Sahib’s Eternal University was very different from the environment that I had previously seen at several colleges of Delhi including Delhi University’s top notch campuses; the discipline, the temperament of students, the unique atmosphere and the exquisite mix of Scientific & Spiritual education…I had seen it no place else before.

4 Years in midst of the valley of Divine Peace & I am an entirely changed person now, especially on context of Gurbani & Nitnem – all of it got into my routine because of Baru Sahib. I often recall my teachers, especially Tejinder Sir, Rajiv Thakur & Mandeep Sir who taught me about computers, microprocessors & Java programming respectively.

Belonging to a middle class family where my father is a mechanical engineer and mother a housewife, it wasn’t easy for my parents to support sending me away from home for studies, but, all thanks to god & blessings of Baru Sahib that everything went on smoothly; now my family is happy since I am well settled with a great job.

Currently, I plan to stick to Job & gain enough experience & finances before I can plan my Masters. For the society, I feel there should be support from everyone for more scholarship programs for needy students, especially girl students, so I would appeal all the readers to do the best in their capacities for this noble cause.

Also, I would suggest & recommend parents to fully support & send their sons & daughters to Baru Sahib as the environment there is very safe & secure so they will never need to worry. My heartfelt thanks to all members connected to Eternal University & Baru Sahib.
Gur-Fateh!

My ‘Soft Skills’ were programmed by Eternal University

Today is a special day for me; my day of promotion at my current job at ‘Accenture-Gurgaon’, after completing my first year of service as a ‘Software Developer’ today. Perhaps the reason I decided to pen down this letter of regard & honor to my University – Eternal University Baru Sahib.

In the previous months I have been reading about Akal Academies & their alumni; though I didn’t get a chance to be at one of the Academies but I could well relate my experience at the Eternal University Baru Sahib with that of the Academy Alumnus.

I originally belong to Rohtak & passed out from Akal College of Engg. & Tech. under Eternal University in July 2012. The experience of being there, the blissful life and the time spent there. Never in my life I have had such an experience of living, the way I had at Baru Sahib. Besides polishing my software development skills I learned a lot about life from Baru Sahib – I learnt about human values & the core of spiritualism; it was at Baru Sahib that I got Baptized into Sikhism by taking up ‘Amrit’, I could feel the positive vibes all around and inside myself. The serene environment & the spirituality provide great help on the academic front, which is backed by an excellent faculty which leads by example.

I am indebted to each person there, the Teachers, the Principal, the staff members, who gave me all that I possess now alongside an unparallel motivation that will continue to propel my life & career till the end of time. On the career front, the experience began right from University – we were given guidance to ourselves coordinate with the companies to arrange for campus placements, I remember how great it felt to visit companies like HCL to align placement programs. Luckily, I myself got picked up by ‘Pyramid Consulting’ alongside 5 others right after we completed our software engineering.

About my parents – My Dad works as a cashier at Canara Bank & my mother was an Ex-Supervisor at PGIMS, Rohtak; she passed away last year – it was a difficult time for me, especially to handle things at both personal & professional end at the same time, but through courage & strength I received from Baru Sahib, in the form of ‘Amrit’, I was able to put myself together bounce back.

In the society, I feel the spiritual & human-values element is missing from Education & Medics; I realized this especially when I saw the medics at the hospital while my mother was under treatment; I realized the relevance of Human values & spiritual element through this entire episode in my life. I am hopeful that in the coming times more organizations will start following education module similar to the Kalgidhar Trust & its Academies to fulfill the gap of Human Values & Spirituality which lack in our societies in the prevailing times.

About my Career – In the upcoming times, after gaining the required experience, I plan to start my own software company. Before & alongside my job I have done several freelance projects as a developer in Java & PHP language.

My messages to fellow students – whatever you do in life, do it with patience and full confidence; always remember to be yourself.

Gur-fateh.
