Man of Steel: Alumnus Shivinder Singh from Bhadaur Academy serving Indian Army at Sikkim!

Satnam Sri Waheguru… I am Shivinder Singh, originally from Cheema, I did my schooling partly at Cheema Sahib Akal Academy where I studied from my 2nd Class till 10th after which I joined Akal Academy Bhadaur for +2 since my mother was teaching at Akal Academy and we had to move. After school I pursued my B.Tech in IT from RIMT Maharaja Engineering College.

I am currently serving Indian Army as Lieutenant Commander in Sikkim after recently completing my 1½ years of Training at IMA which started in January 2013 and ended this June. It’s a matter of proud for my whole family and also my village especially because my father is also an Engineer at a Thermal Power Plant, so everyone expected me to live up to the expectations of my working class family and with the Grace of Almighty it’s all going great.

My childhood or during the times of my schooling, my family didn’t face much of issues in proving me schooling. With blessings of Almighty and graces of the Kalgidhar Trust Baru Sahib’s Akal Academy everything went smooth.

The education they provided was great – the studies, the time-schedules, the curriculum and especially all the teachers including our respected Principal Ma’am Kamalpreet Kaur Ji, they all provided great support at all times. If anyone asks me about my favorite teachers, then I would say that all my teachers during my +2 at Bhadaur were exceptionally brilliant.

My dream for serving the nation was seeded around the time of Kargil War in 1999, which gave me the inspiration and then when I was in 8th standard I made up my mind to work towards joining the Army Services, and today, here I am living my dream – all this made possible by the great academics and spirituality which is induced in me though Paath and discipline at Akal Academies.

The main advantage that I feel about Akal Academies is that they enable us to project our religion as we move outside into the real world while keeping us firmly connected to our heritage and ‘Dharam’…plus it feels great when I hear about the updates from the school and how well they are transforming India with their Modern Gurukuls for the Rurals. Keep Going Khalsa. Gur-Fateh.

Shivinder Singh
Lieutenant – Indian Army, Sikkim
