It acknowledges, \u201cSince the late 19th century, Sikhs have significantly shaped the history and progress of British Columbia, often overcoming immense challenges. Sant Teja Singh Ji, a humanitarian, scholar, and dedicated servant of Sikh principles, devoted his life to combating inequality and building a just society.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Early_Life_and_Academic_Journey\"><\/span>Early Life and Academic Journey<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Born in 1877 in Balowali village, Gujranwala district (now Pakistan), Sant Teja Singh Ji pursued an exceptional academic journey, earning degrees from prestigious institutions like Harvard University. As the Principal of Khalsa College, Amritsar, he was inspired by Sant Attar Singh Ji Mastuana, who encouraged him to study abroad to elevate educational standards in India. Sant Teja Singh Ji became the first Sikh student to wear a turban at Cambridge and Harvard Universities, advocating for the cultural identity of Sikhs.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_First_Ambassador_of_Sikhism_to_the_West\"><\/span>The First Ambassador of Sikhism to the West<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Known as the \u2018First Ambassador of Sikhism to the Western World,\u2019 he worked tirelessly to address the challenges faced by Indians in America and Canada. He was instrumental in establishing Gurdwaras in Vancouver and other locations, fostering a sense of community among Sikhs, Hindus, and Muslims.
