What is values-based education (VbE)?
Values-based Education (VbE) is an educational framework which gives equal status to both character development and academic attainment. It improves students’ willingness and ability to learn; and enhances their social skills, emotional literacy and wellbeing.
Values-based Education is a combination of philosophy, methodology, teaching and learning materials. It is inspirational, as it empowers pupils to be confident, reflective learners and builds high morale.
Do you promote any religion?
No, we do not promote any religion. We give admission to the needy children irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. The criteria of giving admission is only the economic condition of the family.
Why do girl students knit their hair on top (Joora) like boys?
Many city donors find it confusing that our website displays pics of girls who have knitted their hair on top like boys. However, this is a common practice in rural Punjab that girls knit their hair like boys. Hence, kindly do not mistake them for boys.
Why traditional school uniforms?
We use traditional Indian Kurta-Pyjama unisexual uniforms for both boys and girls in our schools. On one hand, it is non-provocative and on the other, it essentially protects the body from extreme weather and renders a sense of gender equity. It gels with the concept of rural schools.
Sponsorship
What does Child sponsorship mean?
The child sponsorship means that the donor is paying the fee for the education of the student.
Do sponsorship fees include everything, or do we charge anything from parents?
Depending upon the financial condition of the sponsored students, we charge a small amount of fee to make the parents responsible for their ward’s education. However, those who cannot afford even that minimal amount, we give them totally Free Education.
How can my sponsorship help a child and his family?
Your sponsorship shall help the child to become a confident youth ready to face the challenges of life and for earning well through a decent job. The income that the child shall earn will raise the economic condition of the family.
How long can one person support one child?
A person can support a child from the beginning of his education till the completion of his schooling, i.e., till completion of 12th class.
How many children can one person sponsor?
A person may sponsor as many children as he feels comfortable to support. We have many sponsors who are sponsoring the education of 50 to 100 children.
Can a donor meet the beneficiary?
Yes, a donor may meet the beneficiary during the Academic hours. We request the sponsor to send his intention of visiting the sponsored child in advance so that prior permission can be arranged from the Academy for this purpose.
Are there any formalities to be fulfilled before meeting a sponsored child?
Yes, the prior formalities required to be fulfilled is to inform the mediator or the admin about the date and time of visit well in advance so that prior permission can be obtained from the Academy for arranging the meet.
What happens to my financial aid if the sponsored child migrates to another place or is no longer under the sponsorship programme due to the completion of his studies or due to some other unavoidable circumstances?
We replace the child who has completed his education or has shifted to some other place. We have thousands of children who are waiting for sponsorship of their education.
How do you ensure that my money is used appropriately?
We have a backend team who visits the Academies to collect the recent photograph of the child, personalised cards and results of the sponsored children. This team also manages the account of each sponsored child like raising invoices towards sponsorship renewal and managing the fees received in each student’s account. This way, we make sure that the money deposited with us is credited into the account of your sponsored child only and the team visiting the academy ensures to remain in touch with the child to get the latest pics and report of your sponsored student.

Which students are listed on this website?
We list the rural students admitted under different categories like Granthi Singh’s children, Girls scheme, Farmer suicide, Widow, Single parent and Orphan children.
What is the procedure of considering students in this scheme?
On receipt of an application from any economically weak rural child, we send our representative to his place to physically check the economic status of that child. On physical verification only do we admit that student under the scheme.
Who will be responsible if a student doesn’t get sponsored?
In case the student is not sponsored, the total expenses of education shall be borne by the Society.
Students of which age/class do we take in this scheme?
We try to get the students admitted in our Academy in Kindergarten classes so that they easily adapt to all the routines at our Academy. However, we admit the students at a later stage also in case they approach us in higher classes as well.
The Problem is HUGE! Will my small contribution make a difference?
Surely it will. In fact, as per our experience, contribution in parts has helped to pay for a single Child’s education and health. And trust us, these small contributions put together definitely add up to make it BIG.

Who is ‘The Kalgidhar Society’?
The Kalgidhar Society – Baru Sahib is a non-profit charitable organisation focussed on providing quality education to fight against the alarming rise in drugs and alcohol abuse. With equal stress on Healthcare, Women Empowerment and Social Welfare, the organisation has been instrumental in the socio-economic uplift of the poor in the far-flung rural areas of North India.
Why The Kalgidhar Society(TKS)?
In India, the majority of the higher educational institutions are urban centric. As a result, the rural population is deprived of quality education. It is seen that the gross enrollment ratio is very poor in these rural areas. The situation is even worse for the female population in regard to gross enrollment ratio. So, it is an effort of The Kalgidhar Society to spread rural education.
Why do we focus on North India?
In relation to the north, the education infrastructure in the south is already much more developed. The quality of education imparted in the south is quite good. Geographically, the masses in the south are well covered with the educational infrastructure. But in the north, especially hilly and rural areas, these parameters are poor and need urgent attention. The spread of drug malady in the north needs to be urgently addressed to keep the nation strong. The weak northern states would result in a weaker India, thus, threatening the sovereignty of the nation.
Does Educate to Save (ETS) receive government funding?
As an NGO (non-government organization), TKS does not receive any direct government funding.
Is ETS an international organization?
TKS is an International Trust, having supporters from various countries. TKS funds are deployed in India to benefit underprivileged children in rural areas, and a small proportion is also invested in local causes.
