Institutions of The Kalgidhar Society and The Kalgidhar Trust
Bringing Grace to Human Race
Founded in 1956, The Kalgidhar Trust & The Kalgidhar Society – Baru Sahib has grown into a reputed NGO in India, working tirelessly to transform the lives of rural children through Value-Based Education. Its Akal Academies are today counted among the best rural education schools in India, bringing quality learning to far-flung villages across North India. At the same time, Baru Sahib places equal focus on empowering women, providing healthcare and ensuring social welfare for the vulnerable. With the firm belief that everyone deserves to lead a life of dignity, each of its initiatives is rooted in the core thought of Bringing Grace to the Human Race.
Baru Sahib initiated its work to bring back the glory of Punjab which is free of drug and alcohol abuse through the tool of education rooted in values. In its quest of fighting drugs with books, The Kalgidhar Trust and The Kalgidhar Society have established 130 low-cost CBSE schools and 2 universities. The Kalgidhar Trust and The Kalgidhar Society, under their flagship Akal Academies program, are providing modern, value-based education to nearly 75,000 students across rural areas of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Extending a helping hand to all those in need and giving them an opportunity to lead a decent life, The Kalgidhar Trust and The Kalgidhar Society have established teacher training centers, a multi-specialty hospital, drug de-addiction centers, an orphanage, one old age home, and a Center for Distressed Women.
Through the years, its work in rural education has earned Baru Sahib its place as a reputed NGO in India, and several institutions have adapted the models it developed.
Baru Sahib’s work is carried out by two separate legal entities: The Kalgidhar Trust (registered in 1982 under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882) and The Kalgidhar Society (registered in 1983 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860). See how the Trust and the Society differ.
