What The Kalgidhar Trust does about drug addiction
Akal Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centres are humanitarian initiatives of The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib — the non-profit organisation established in 1956 in service of rural India, with a focus on northern India. The first centre opened in 2004 at Cheema Sahib, Punjab, in the hometown of Sant Attar Singh Ji, built and run entirely on the Trust’s own resources without government support.
A second centre followed at Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, in July 2016 — the state’s first private de-addiction facility with dedicated women’s in-patient care. All two centres are covered together on one consolidated site, akaldeaddictioncenter.com, rather than maintaining a separate website per centre.

Cheema Sahib
Village Cheema, Tehsil Sunam, District Sangrur, Punjab – 148029
The first and largest of the three centres, built in the hometown of Sant Attar Singh Ji. Treats patients with or without in-patient admission, at low or no cost, and has treated several thousand patients since opening.

Baru Sahib
A 50-bed OPD/IPD facility set within the 250-bed Akal Charitable Hospital, in the same valley as the Akal Academies’ founding school. The only private centre in Himachal Pradesh with dedicated women’s in-patient facilities.

Daily yoga sessions and sporting or recreational activities as part of recovery.
Dignity & livelihood
Rebuilding self-confidence and, at the newer centres, vocational training so patients can support themselves after treatment.
