Akal College of Nursing celebrated International Nurses Day cum 2nd Annual Florence Nightingale Knowledge quest on 12th May, 2014 in the Campus auditorium. On this occasion of International Nurses Day, the International Council for Nurses called for focusing on the global workforce as a key provision in achieving better health care for all.

The chief guest on this occasion was Registrar HPNRC, Shimla – Mrs. Kaushyala Chaudhary who through her motivational speech encouraged the young nurses to excel in quality care without discrimination. The event was also graced by Honourable Vice Chancellor, Eternal University, Baru Sahib – Dr. H.S Dhaliwal.

Principal Akal College of Nursing – Mrs. Ranjit Kaur welcomed the chief guest and all the participants and audience with a warm welcome speech. The theme of – A force for change- Vital resource for health was unveiled by Dr. Neelam Kaur, Dean Faculty Of Health Science, Eternal University, Baru Sahib.

On this occasion students of Bsc (N) 1st year and 2nd year took nurses pledge. Students exhibited their talent in cultural event in the form of choreography, skit, Mime and devotional song singing which was followed by distribution of Prizes for academic achievement and sports meet.

2nd Annual Florence Nightingale Knowledge Quest was also conducted for Bsc nursing students at regional level. Participants from different colleges participated in the event. Akal College of Nursing has qualified as first but being the host institution the cash prize of Rs.20,000  was awarded to Murari Lal Memorial College of Nursing, Solan; followed by Amar Professional Institute of Nursing, Zirakpur at second and was awarded Rs 15,000 and HK College of Nursing, Firozpur at 3rd was awarded 10,000 cash award.

Professor Sujana Chakarwarty proposed the vote of thanks to the chief guests and the other dignitaries for gracing the occasion and making it a success!
