The University organised a special lecture “Importance of Mother Language” by Prof. Rajinderpal Singh Brar, Dean Colleges, Punjabi University, Patiala on International Mother Language Day, February 20, 2017. The lecture was presided over by Prof. Gurmail Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Akal University. In the lecture, Prof. Brar talked about the relevance of mother language in the contemporary era by focusing on Punjabi Language. He emphasised that one should feel proud while employing Punjabi as mother language as the community’s positive attitude towards language is the foremost factor to preserve any endangered language. He added that languages are the most powerful tools to preserve and develop our cultural heritage. The promotion of mother tongues not only encourage linguistic diversity but also motivate solidarity among nations based on tolerance and peace.
