She wears a Turban. She talks about empowerment, equality, religion, self-expression, and authenticity. Meet this energetic, inspiring alumnus from Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, Gurparam Kaur.
To become a successful doctor was the only dream of this Turbaned Kaur. From her very childhood, the thoughts of setting up her own clinic, serving the poor always fascinated her mind. She found solace in healing & the joy of serving others.
Gurparam Kaur shares her experience,
“Akal Academy, Baru Sahib has played a huge role in my success. The environment of Baru Sahib kept me aligned with my vision of my future as a doctor.
I was polished with some special values such as living a spiritual and simple life. Babaji and his teachings nurtured us with Sikhi and always kept us grounded to our roots.
One of the biggest blessings which came to me while studying here was I started adorning Dastaar (turban) and I even wear it today.
Dastaar makes us feel unique & it differentiates us Sikhs from others.
ਜਬ ਲਗ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ, ਤਬ ਲਗ ਤੇਜ ਦੀਓ ਮੈ ਸਾਰਾ॥
“As long as Khalsa preserves its uniqueness and follows the path of true Guru I will bless them with all of my powers.
I completed my MBBS and am going to apply for MD in two fine countries abroad. I’ll be appearing in United States Medical Licensing Examinations and Medical Council of Canada Evaluating exam as well. I feel delighted to be a step closer to my childhood dream. Trust me, it feels proud to say I’m a doctor today and it’s only possible because of my Dastaar I wore in the divine valley.
Turban surely gives us a sense of empowerment.
