Kanwar A. Singh, founder of The Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha, is a leader in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Singh began practicing ophthalmology in Racine, Wisconsin in 1971 and performed the state’s first cataract surgery with lens implantation in 1975. He introduced outpatient cataract surgery with lens implantation in Southeastern Wisconsin in 1983. In 1992, Dr. Singh performed Wisconsin’s first Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty vision correction surgery.
Dr. Singh has pioneered several ophthalmic surgeries for Racine and Kenosha counties, performing the area’s first Radial Keratotomy vision correction surgery, the first single stitch cataract surgery with lens implantation, and the first no-stitch cataract surgery with lens implant. In recent years, Dr. Singh has been credited with introducing both topical anesthesia cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation and cataract surgery with multifocal intraocular lens implantation.
Dr. Singh has had a distinguished academic career, as well. During his undergraduate education at the University of Delhi in Delhi, India, Dr. Singh ranked second of 600 candidates for the University’s Merit List. At the Medical College in Delhi, Dr. Singh was awarded First Prize in each of the following areas: Anatomy, Pharmacology, Preventative Medicine, Surgery and Pathology, and graduated Salutatorian of his class. Dr. Singh’s academic achievements continued during his internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Illinois where he was awarded “Best Intern” in 1968.
Dr. Singh is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the International College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators.
Dr. Singh resides in Racine, Wisconsin with his wife, Dr. Satnam Singh, they have two sons, Kanwar M. Singh, an attorney; and Dr. I. Paul Singh, an Ophthalmologist who joined his practice at The Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha, in 2004.
