Who Are We?

Founded in 1956, Kalgidhar Society – Baru Sahib has been working tirelessly towards transforming the lives of children through the tool of value-based high-quality education.  At the same time, the Society has placed equal focus on empowering women, providing health care, and ensuring social welfare for the vulnerable people in the society. With the firm belief that everyone deserves to lead a life of dignity, each initiative of the Society is embedded in the core thought of Bringing Grace to the Human Race.

Kalgidhar Society initiated its work to bring back the glory of Punjab which is free of drug and alcohol abuse through the tool of education rooted in values. In its quest of fighting drugs with books, the Society has established 129 low cost CBSE schools and three universities in under its flagship Akal Academies program, providing modern, value-based education to nearly 70,000 students across rural areas of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

Extending a helping hand to all those in need and giving them an opportunity to lead a decent life, the Trust has established teacher training centers, a multi-specialty hospital, drug de-addiction centers, an orphanage, one old age home, and a Center for Distressed Women.
