Beautiful words from Sikh actor and designer Waris Ahluwalia who was stopped from boarding a plane because he wouldn’t take off his turban. He turned what was a negative experience into a positive outcome and used it as an opportunity to educate.

“On this day, and each day hereafter we must remember that our struggle against fear and ignorance is fought with love. That is the only way forward for humanity. ‪”

Waris Ahluwalia refused to leave Mexico until he has a conversation with the Aero Mexico officials who refused to board him on a flight to NY. The incident has gone viral worldwide enabling the spread of Sikh awareness and issue of racial profiling faced by Sikhs at airports.

Christine Amanpour of CNN: What do you want to get out of this? They have obviously apologized to you [Aeromexico], but what more do you want from them?

Waris Ahluwalia: “This is a first step… I am here until we can have a dialogue about training their staff and about education – education of the Sikh religion and other religions. This isn’t about just me or just Sikhs… The conversation has to be larger.”
