Pir Bhikhan Shah was the first to recognise Guru Gobind Singh Ji!

Pir Bhikham Shah lived in village Thaska in District Karnal, now in Haryana. A Sayyid, on the day that Guru Gobind Rai was born at Patna, Pir Bhikan Shah did something that shocked the Muslims around him.

That morning when everyone else was doing Namaaz in the direction of Mecca, the Pir made a deep and respectful bow towards East in the direction of Patna. His Muslim disciples and village people were surprised and agitated because the Muslims of India always bow towards the West, in the direction of Mecca.

They asked the Pir, the purpose of his strange act. Then Sayyid replied, “On this day, a beloved of God has been born who will be both a saint and a hero. He has taken birth to destroy evil, sin and falsehood. He will fight for the cause of virtue, and truth. I will go to that sacred place to be blessed by the sight of the holy child.”

Pir Bhikham Shah then left for Patna with his disciples and some servants. Arriving at Patna, the Pir went to the house where Gobind Rai was born where after a respectful bow, he sat down near the door of the house. When asked what he wanted and why he was sitting there, the Pir said, “I have come from a far off place to be blessed by having look at the holy child.” Mata Gujri when informed of the arrival of the Faqir and his intention hesitatingly made some excuses but the Pir was adamant and implored that his wish to see the child be granted. He told that having traveled for many days covering hundreds of miles, he would not go away, neither eat nor drink till his wish was granted. He was at last permitted to see the child.

On seeing the child, the Faqir respectfully made a deep bow after which he offered two earthen pots containing sweetmeats. The Pir had purchased one pot from a Muslim and the second pot of sweets from a Hindu. After placing both the pots containing sweets before Gobind Rai, the Pir sat down with folded hands and looking at the child, Gobind Rai placed his left hand on one of the pots and at the same time placed his right hand on the other pot. The child then smiled and looked at the pir who made a long and deeper bow to the holy child.

The followers of the Pir had watched as the child touched both bowls at the same moment, but why had their Pir offered two bowls instead of one? They kindly asked their Pir why he had placed two bowls before the child. The Pir explained that he had wanted to know whether this holy child would favor the Hindus or theMuslims. But the holy child wisely touched both pots showing me that both the Hindus and Muslims are equally dear to him.

The Pir he was immensely impressed and pleased with this act of the Holy child. The Pir, his disciples and servants then returned to his home and remained a steadfast supporter of the Guru for his entire life.

ਪੀਰ ਭੀਖਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਥ੍ਕ੍ਸ਼ਾ ਜਿੱਲਾ ਕਰਨਾਲ, ਜੋ ਕੀ ਹੁਣ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੈ, ਦੇ ਰਹਨ ਵਾੱਲੇ ਸਨ| ਓਹ ਇਕ ਸੈਯਦ ਸਨ| ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਾਏ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਹਾੜ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ ਸਮਾਜ ਨੂ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ|

ਜਿਸ ਦਿਹਾੜ੍ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋਆ ਸੀ ਪੀਰ ਭੀਖਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਪੁਰਬ (ਪਟਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ) ਵਲ ਮੁਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਦਬ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ| ਇਹ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂ ਬੜੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਹੋਈ ਤੇ ਓਹ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਗਏ ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਪਛਮ ਚ ਮੱਕੇ ਵਲ ਮੁਹ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਅਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ|

ਓਹਨਾ ਨੇ ਪੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਤਦ ਸੈਯਦ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ “ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਹਾੜ੍ਹੇ ਪਟਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਰਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਯਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਲਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕੀ ਇਕ ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਈ ਇਕ ਯੋਧਾ ਵੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਬੁਰਾਈ, ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਲਈ ਹ਼ੋਇਆ ਹੈ| ਓਹ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਲੜਨਗੇ| ਮੈ ਓਸ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਓਸ ਨੇਕ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਆਸ਼ੀਰਵਾਦ ਲੈਣ ਜਵਾਂਗਾ|

ਪੀਰ ਭੀਖਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁਝ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਨੌਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਟਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਰਵਾਨਾ ਹੋ ਗਏ| ਪਟਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਪੀਰ ਭੀਖਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਓਸ ਘਰ ਗਏ ਜਿਥੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਾਏ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਤਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਓਥੇ ਅਦਬ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਝੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਗਏ| ਜਦੋ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਓਹ ਕੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਓਂ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ “ਮੈ ਬੜੀ ਦੂਰੋ ਇਸ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਹੋਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ| ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਜਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਦੋ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਦੀ ਆਮਦ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਚਲੀਆ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਿਸ ਭੇਜਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ| ਪਰ ਓਹ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਦੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਗੁਜਾਰਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ| ਓਸ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕੇ ਓਹ ਸੈਂਕੜਾ ਮੀਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂ ਮਿਲਣ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖੇ ਓਹ ਦਰ ਤੋ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਏਗਾ ਤੇ ਤਦ ਤਕ ਅਨ ਜਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਵਾਂਗਾ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏਗਾ| ਅਖੀਰ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ|

ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪੀਰ ਨੇ ਅਦਬ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਦੋ ਘੜਿਯਾਂ ਚ ਸ਼੍ਕਰ੍ਪਾਰੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ| ਪੀਰ ਨੇ ਸ਼੍ਕਰ੍ਪਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਘੜਾ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ, ਤੇ ਇਕ ਘੜਾ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਕੋਲੋ ਖਰਿਦ੍ਯਾ ਸੀ| ਪੀਰ ਭੀਖਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਾਏ ਜੀ ਕੋਲ ਦੋਵੇ ਘੜੇ ਰਖ ਕੇ, ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਵਲ ਤਕਣ ਲਗ ਪਿਆ| ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਾਏ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੱਜਾ ਹੱਥ ਇਕ ਘੜੇ ਚ ਤੇ ਖੱਬਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੂਜੇ ਘੜੇ ਚ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੁਸਕਰਾਏ| ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਫੇਰ ਅਦਬ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ|

ਪੀਰ ਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਵੇ ਘੜੇ ਏਕੋ ਵਾਰੀ ਛੋਹ੍ਨਦਿਯਾਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਘੜੇ ਕਿਓਂ ਰਖੇ ਤੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰੀ ਛੂਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਮਤਲਬ ਸੀ| ਪੀਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕੀ ਓਹ ਜਾਨਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਰਬ ਦਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਹਿੰਦੁਆ ਵਲ ਦੀ ਗਲ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਜਾਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੀ, ਪਰ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਕੀ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੇ ਦੋਵੇ ਘੜੇ ਇਕੋ ਵਾਰੀ ਚ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਸਾਬਿਤ ਕਰ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ ਦੋਵੇ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਨ|

ਇਸ ਤੋ ਬਾਦ ਪੀਰ ਭੀਖਮ ਸ਼ਾਹ, ਓਹਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਤੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਵਾਪਸ ਮੁੜ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਕ ਰਹੇ|
