One learned English man told the Indians residing in Canada that one of their learned bother is at New York and asked them to invite him to fight their case of permanent residency for Canada. As this word spread, the Indians residing in Canada requested Saint Teja Singh to visit them as they were being pushed out of Canadian mainland to Honduras which was poor and uninhabited island at that time.

Sant Teja Singh first of all studied the legality of the Govt orders. Then he collected the data from the employers where Indians were working. He took in writing from the employers which stated that the Indians were working 50% more hard than the natives of Canada. Teja Singh got for the Sikh Sangat of Canada shares in gold mines. He also bought a big chunk of land at the Portland in the name of Indians and built up a Gurdwara there.

After going through all these exercises, he took the case with the Canadian Govt. He fought the case with these facts that Indians have good wealth, land and possessed working skills 50% harder than natives. For these facts, the Canadian Govt. bowed before the arguments of Saint Teja Singh and thus got convinced and granted the permanent residency rights for the Indians who lived in Canada.

But the British Govt. perceiving the seed of revolt by TejaSingh, wrote to all the Universities where he 0used to study, that MrTeja Singh should not be granted admission and degrees thereafter.
After getting residency rights for Indians in Canada, he again returned to US for completion of AM degree in Columbia University. But he was barred from studying there on the plea that he had participated in a movement against Canadian Govt.; and thatas such he had lost right to study there.

Then Teja Singh took admission in Harvard University for which he had applied while he was in India itself. No such report or complaint had been received by Harvard University against him; so the admission was granted.Teja Singh completed his A.M. degree in 1913. He also introduced Turban in Harvard University. Now the Sikh students of Harvard University are so much enthused that they want to establish a chair on the name of Saint Teja Singh, who introduced the turban for the first time in the history of Harvard University.

ਧਰਮਗੜ੍ਹ, 29 ਜੂਨ (ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਚਹਿਲ ) – ਸੰਤ ਤੇਜਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ 51ਵੀਂ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਬਰਸੀ ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਵਾਰ ਵੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ (ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼) ਵਿਖੇ 24 ਤੋਂ 26 ਜੂਨ ਤੱਕ ਬੜੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀਕਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਈ ਗਈ, ਜਿਸ ਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਹਰਿਆਣਾ, ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼, ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ, ਯੂ.ਪੀ. ਅਤੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਤੇਜਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਭੇਂਟ ਕੀਤੇ।

ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਗਭਗ 200 ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ 22 ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ (ਬੀਬੀਆਂ) ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ| ਤਿੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਹਜੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਸਜਾਏ ਗਏ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ- ਮਹਾਪੁਰਸ਼ਾ, ਰਾਗੀ -ਢਾਡੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਜਥਾ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਜਸ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ| ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ 75 ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣੇ|

ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੁੜਥੜੀ ਵਾਲੇ, ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਹਰਿਗੜ ਵਾਲੇ, ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬਾਠਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ, ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਹਰਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਭੋਲੀ ਜੀ ਮਸਤੂਆਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਾਲੇ, ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਖਾਸੀ ਕਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੋਰ ‘ਤੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਥਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ‘ਚ ਬਾਬਾ ਇਕ਼ਬਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਗੁ. ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੁੱਜਿਆ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ|

BABA IQBAL SINGH, of the Kalgidhar Society at Baru Sahib leads a network of spiritually inspired Akal Akademies, in a combined effort to help rehabilitate drug addicts, particularly in Punjab ‘Boost your self-esteem’ Addiction to drugs, alcohol and tobacco occur most-ly among those with pre-dominantly negative instincts, especially when they find themselves in similar company or when they suffer low self-esteem.

Rather than shunning them, family and friends must shower them with love, instilling faith and confidence. Without preaching or being patronizing, share stories of spiritual role models with them including those of Dhruva, Prahlad and the sons of Guru Gobind Singh who showed great courage in facing atrocities. Motivate the victim to recite the Divine Name — and impress upon him that this could give him strength to resist addictions and would en-able him to experience real bliss through spiritual practice, in place of chemically induced toxic highs.

Create circumstances at home that will encourage him to take stock and willingly give up harmful stimulants. Positive Role Models Once the addict comes in contact with positive role models, their aura is bound to have a salutary effect. In good company, the addict will be so inspired to turn over a new leaf that his negative perceptions will become positive.

Tasty and healthy food should be served to him to boost his self-esteem and revive his interest in the good things of life that have beneficial effects. The Kalgidhar Trust/Society at Baru Sahib has established a network of schools in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP.

Besides providing good education, these schools groom students in a holistic manner so that they go home and motivate their family and friends to stay away from alcohol, drugs and other addictions. There are several examples of students who have inspired their elders at home to become clean.

In Moga, Punjab, value-based education brought about a positive change in an affluent family that runs a successful transport business here. Two young children of two affluent Sikh brothers heard ofour Akal Academy that was 21 km from their home. After just three months in school, they gained enough confidence to object to their fathers’ drinking binges. They requested their family members to stop their addictions as it was going against the teaching of Sikh tenets. But their pleas fell on deaf ears. They shared their pain with the Principal of the Academy and asked if they could stay in school.

Stunned by the appeal of the young children, the Principal assured them that the Trust would accommodate them free in the school premises. The children now went back home and told their parents that since they were not trying to overcome their ad-diction to alcohol, they were leaving home. Stunned and surprised at this bold decision taken by their children, the parents agreed to make serious efforts to de-addict themselves. But the children, not confident of the commitment given by their parents, packed their bags and stayed in school. The parents rushed to school to meet the principal; she gently rebuked them but counseled them, as well. The incident shook up the two families and the members who were addicted to alcohol decided to give it up permanently. Later, they even got baptised in the Sikh way of life. This is just one example of how value-based education.
