Sikh Entertainer ‘JusReign’ says security agents at a San Francisco-area airport forced him to take off his turban — the second Sikh entertainer this month who endured a public airport encounter involving the religious headwear.

Jasmeet Singh, who’s known on the internet as “JusReign,” posted about the encounter on Twitter.

“So the [agents] made me take off my turban in extra screening or they said I wouldn’t be able to be let through to catch my flight,” he wrote.

Singh was taken to a private screening room. Security didn’t find anything amiss, but forced Singh to walk to a restroom without his turban on, he said. Turbans are mandatory in public for Sikh men, and are worn to protect the hair, as well as to convey a sense of identity.

Some Sikhs have stopped donning the headwear due to airport security.

This ignorant incident comes weeks after actor Waris Ahluwalia was banned from boarding a flight out of Mexico when he refused to remove his turban.

Ahluwalia later received an apology from Aeromexico, and the airline vowed to educate its staff on the Sikh religion.

National Chess Champ Sends Out a Stirring Message to the Jat Agitators

Haryana has been witness to violence as the members of the Jat community began protesting over the demand of reservation. Buses and house have been set on fire, public property damaged and killing 12 people so far. According to rough estimates the recent protests have led to a loss of over 20,000 crore.

It won’t be wrong to say that the protesters in pursuit of reservation have lost their ability to reason and logic.

From politicians to Virender Sehwag to wrestler Vijender Singh, have all tried to drill some sense into them but all has been in wain.
Amid this, another voice has emerged of Anuradha Beniwal, a former National Chess player from Haryana, who has represented India abroad and also won several accolades. This young gutsy Jat woman asks Jat protesters a couple of questions in a video.

Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner Anita Yadav on Monday said the law and order situation in the district is under control but added that curfew would continue for a few more days as a precautionary measure.

“The situation is under control. We have assured people that we will not let the law and order situation deteriorate, and thus, they need not panic or fear,” said Yadav. She, however, said the curfew and night patrolling would go on to make the people feel safe and secure.

Divulging details of the causalities and injuries, Yadav said, “Eight civilians have been reported killed in the agitation so far. As many as 20 police and army personnel were injured, while eight to ten civilians also received injuries.”

“Apart from this, a lot of public and private properties have been damaged. Houses and shops were set ablaze, though we have not made an assessment of the property loss,” she added.

Jagdev Singh went to work Monday as a Calgary Transit operator just as he would any other day—but it turned out a little different, and, thanks to Singh’s quick thinking a Calgary woman was brought to safety.

Singh was leaving the Saddletown station Monday around 8 a.m. when he saw a disoriented woman on the tracks with a train rapidly approaching. Luckily, he said the train operator honked the horn, prompting the woman to vacate the tracks.

He watched as she got up and began walking right down the tracks again.

“I got in my bus and drove up beside her and said ‘what are you doing? You know this is not a safe place to be,’” he said. “She just kept saying ‘ok, ok’ and I could see she was mentally not stable at the time.”

He then persuaded the woman onto the bus offering her a safe, warm place to sit.

Sardar jokes may be a thing of the past soon. The Supreme Court, in response to a PIL, has asked representatives of the Sikh community to give suggestions on what enforceable judicial directions can be passed to stop circulation of jokes on Sikhs.

We asked musician Daler Mehndi for his opinion on the same. Calling the community, dildaar and pyaar wale log, Mehndi says that he’s in favour of Sardar jokes being banned and that they shouldn’t be cracked on any community at all.

“As a Sikh, I feel that sardaro ke upar jokes nahin hone chahiye. Mann mei nafrat nahi honi chahiye. Jis desh ke liye humne itna kuch kiya hai, woh phir apna hi desh paraya nahi lagna chahiye. Hum badi mushkil se desh ko yahan tak le ke aaye hai, qurbaaniyan di hai. Jokes aise crack nah ho toh acha rahega. Unko izzat aur pyar milna chahiye. (With great difficulty we’ve brought the country to where we are, through sacrifices. We deserve love and respect).”

Hinting at the jokes being used as a hidden agenda to demean the community, Mehndi adds, “Alag se politics chal rahi hai inko kamzoor karne ke liye. Kisi bhi kaum ke upar jokes nahi hone chahiye — na Muslim, Sikh ya Christians. Normal jokes bhi hote hai, funny baatein hoti hai, but the communities should be left alone.”

Amar Singh, a third-generation policeman, has been appointed Kuala Lumpur chief police office, moving from federal headquarters Aman where he is deputy director of CID. He was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police, the highest achieved by a Malaysian Sikh.

He replaced Tajuddin Mohamed who moves to federal headquarters to take over from Hamza Taib, who retired as deputy director of Commercial CID on March 14.

The highest police rank previously achieved by a Sikh was senior assistant commissioner I when Santokh Singh became Selangor CPO.

Amar Singh’s father and maternal grandfather were both policemen.

His father, Ishar Singh, joined the Federated Malay States Police in 1939 a year after coming to Malaya from Punjab and was a pioneer member of the police jungle squad established during the Emergency, according to a news report. He retired as a corporal in 1971 and died in 1999 at the age of 80.

Amar Singh’s maternal grandfather, Bachan Singh, was a constable who joined the force in the early 1900s. He was reported to have served in Kuala Kubu Baru, Kuala Lipis and Raub, and retired in Klang in the 1940s.

His appointment as Kuala Lumpur police chief was announced together with several other transfers and promotions.

Amar Singh’s place at CID is filled by the deputy head of Kuala Lumpur police, Law Hong Soon, while the commander of the Federal Reserve Unit, Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali, moves from Bukit Aman to replace Law, Bernama reported.

Amar Singh surely makes History for Sikhs in Malaysian Police Force!

Remember those who overlooked the shortcomings of others.

In the formal Ardaas, we acknowledge that human shortcoming of focusing on the faults in others and ask for the ability to look beyond them. Whilst it is normal human behavior to see the fault in others, the Ardaas guides us, so that through the grace of our Guru we can transcend this human condition and be granted the divine inspiration to look beyond the flaws of others.

If it were easy, we would not have to pray daily in the Ardaas for the strength and ability to do so. It is extremely difficult. Nevertheless, it must be very important because we remember those who achieve this in the same breath as our remembrance of the Punj Piare, Chaar Sahibzaade and the 40 Muktay.

EXTRACT FROM THE FORMAL SIKH ARDAAS

Panja Piyariya, Chauhaa Sahibzadiya, Chaliya Mukhtiya, Huthiya, Jupiya, Tupiya, Jina Nam Jupiya, Vand Shakiya, Deg Chalaaee, Teg Vaahee, Dekh Ke Andhith Keetaa, Tinhaa Piariyaa, Sachiaariyaa Dee Kamaaee, Da Dhiyaan Dhar Ke Bolo Ji Waheguroo

Think of the deeds of the Five Beloved Ones, of the four sons (of Guru Gobind Singh); of the Forty Martyrs; of the brave Sikhs of indomitable determination; of the devotees steeped in the colour of the Name; of those who were absorbed in the Name; of those who remembered the Name and shared their food in companionship; of those who started free kitchens; of those who wielded their swords (for preserving truth); of those who overlooked others shortcomings; All the aforesaid were pure and truly devoted ones; Utter Wahe Guru!
