The Delhi High Court today gave the go-ahead to Delhi University (DU) – affiliated Khalsa College to commence its admission process for this academic year under the minority status.

“How are the teachers of the college affected if students are given admission under the minority status?” Justice GS Sistani asked the DU teachers who had sought a stay on the National Commission for Minority Educational Institution order granting minority status to Sri Guru Teg Bahadur (SGTB) Khalsa College.

The Judge added, “Fresh appointments of teachers in the college will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition.” It said the authorities concerned should inform the new students that the petition challenging the minority status given to the college was pending.

The High Court, in its interim order yesterday, had only allowed the counselling process, not the admissions.

The court’s order came on a plea by the teachers who had claimed that if admissions under the minority status were allowed, their service conditions would be affected. They had also challenged the grant of minority status on the grounds that it would affect the interests of SC/ST students.

The college was granted minority status in 2011, which was then challenged by teachers as well as DU on whose plea a stay was granted by the High Court in 2012, according to the petition filed by the teachers.

As per the plea, DU had withdrawn its petition in July last year, saying that it had no objection to the minority status granted to the college.

Last July, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), which runs the college, had assured the court that the admissions and appointment of teachers would “continue as per the old system” which allows admission in general as well as SC/ST/OBC categories.

On April 18 this year, the DSGMC said since DU and the government had accepted the minority status, it would not continue the ‘interim arrangement’ and not be bound by the provisions of the SC/ST Reservation Act. The teachers had then again filed a plea seeking a stay on the order. — PTI

तिब्बती आध्यात्मिक नेता दलाई लामा ने दुनिया भारत से प्रेरणा लेने की नसीहत दी है। उनका कहना है कि भारत ने 2,000 से अधिक वर्षोंं से धार्मिक सौहार्द को बनाए रखा है। इसकी ताजा मिसाल पेश की है आॅरलैंडो के सिख समुदाय ने। इससे इंकार नहीं किया जा सकता कि दुनिया के जिस कोने में भारतीय गए हैं उन्होंने वहां अपनी पहचान छोड़ी है।

अॉरलैंडो के गे क्लब में हुई गोलीबारी की घटना की प्रतिक्रिया में सिख समुदाय में उसके विरुद्ध हिंसा होने का डर सताने लगा था। वैसे भी रिपब्लिकन्स पार्टी के उम्मीदवार डोनाल्ड ट्रंप अप्रवासियों के खिलाफ जहर उगलते रहे हैं। लेकिन आॅरलैंडो के सिखों ने पैसा ही नहीं, बल्कि रक्तदान की पेशकश करके सबका दिल जीत लिया।

हालांकि आेबामा प्रशासन ने सिख समुदाय को सुरक्षा का पूरा भरोसा दिलाया था, लेकिन अपनी चिंता न करते हुए सिख समुदाय ने वहां के स्थानीय प्रशासन, सामाजिक-धार्मिक संगठनों को चौंका दिया। इसकी जितनी प्रशंसा की जाए वह कम होगी। गोलीबारी के पीडितों की मदद करने का बीड़ा उठाने को तैयार सिखों ने मानवता का परिचय तो दिया ही, साथ ही आॅरलैंडो के लोगों को बता दिया कि वे उनके समुदाय का ही एक हिस्सा हैं।

यहां रेस्टोरेंट चलाने वाले बलजीत सिंह को जैसे ही नाइट क्लब में हुई गोलीबारी की घटना का पता चला उन्होंने अपने फोन के माध्यम से सभी परिचितों को मदद के लिए पूछना शुरू कर दिया। स्थानीय प्रशासन ने उन्हें इंतजार करने के लिए कहा। एक अनुमान के मुताबिक आॅरलैंडो में करीब 125 सिख परिवार रहते हैं। उन्होंने अपने दो गुरुद्वारों के माध्यम से स्थानीय प्रशासन को सहायता देने की पहल की। फ्लोरिडा स्थित गुरुद्वारे नानकसर के हरजीत सिंह कहते हैं कि हम से जो कुछ बन पड़ेगा, वैसी मदद करने के लिए हर समय तैयार हैं।

बलजीत सिंह यूं तो पिछले 31 सालों से अमरीका में रह रहे हैं, लेकिन वह वर्ष 2002 में आॅतलैंडो में आकर बस गए। यहां सिख परिवारों ने इस घटना के मद्देनजर भोजन और रक्तदान करने का प्रस्ताव भी रखा। वे घायलों के लिए आर्थिक सहायता देने के लिए तैयार हो गए। हालांकि इस घटना के प्रति अपनी संवेदना व्यक्त करने के लिए वे कैंडल मार्च भी निकालना चाहते थे। प्रशासन ने उनसे कहा कि स्थिति सामान्य होने तक उनसे इंतजार करने को कहा। सुरक्षा कारणों से कैंडल मार्च की अनुमति नहीं दी गई।

बलजीत यहां वन ब्लड नामक ब्लड बैंक के संपर्क में हैं। यह बैंक घायलों की मदद के लिए रक्तदान को स्वीकार करता है। बैंक को रक्तदान के लिए बड़ी संख्या में फोन कॉल्स आईं, लेकिन उसने अपील जारी की कि उन्हें इसके बारे में बता दिया जाएगा। फ्लोरिडा स्थित गुरुद्वारे के प्रवक्ता के मुताबि​क इस घटना के प्रभावितों और उनके संबंधियों से हम संपर्क करने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं और उनकी मदद करना चाहते हैं।

स्वयं पर हमला होने की आशंका से सिख समुदाय चाहता तो घरों में दुबक कर बैठ जाता अथवा उनसे मिलने आए ओबामा के अधिकारी से पुलिस सुरक्षा की मांग करता। लेकिन उन्होंने ऐसा नही किया, वे मृतकों और घायलों के प्रति अपनी संवेदना व्यक्त करने घरों से बाहर आ गए और उनके परिजनों की मदद के लिए कंधे से कंधा मिलाकर खड़े हो गए। भारतीयों की इसी सेवा और मैत्री भावना की यह दुनिया कायल है।
