Working towards this noble cause, Akal Academy, Mayopatti. under the aegis of The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru sahib organized a tree plantation drive as ‘Environment Degradation’ is emerging as an international challenge before all communities of the world and we must plant more trees to save earth’s fragile ecosystem! The concerned authorities also conceptualized rallies in an effort to help free the society from the evils of drug & alcohol abuse which are gripping the land Punjab, which, from being a land of the pious, is ironically having its youth crippled at the hands of drug menace, alcohol addiction and losing its ground over true Sikhi rampantly. Students pledged to transform their surroundings green by planting saplings. The students also displayed banners highlighting the need to plant trees to protect the environment. They painted colorful posters to spread the social message all around the surrounding areas. The Principal also focused on the motive of curbing drug addiction also created awareness about Free Drug De-addiction centers that are run by the charitable organization “The Kalgidhar Trust” & propagated the message of love towards saving the environment through plantation of trees. She also added “ To foster children’s love and their interaction with nature, we sometimes bring students out and conduct classes in the open". From creating awareness among children about the ill effects of drugs , planting trees, to asking them to get a plant to school from their homes, to carrying out tree plantation awareness rallies around the school, the authorities of Akal Academy are doing everything possible to ensure that the students grow up to form the brighter nation! Akal Academy Dhotian takes good care of the physical & mental health of its students by engaging them into well-organized sports activities as sports is a compulsory and valued part of the curriculum and is an integral part of a child's development. Tug of war (rope pulling) is a sport that directly pits two teams against each other in a test of strength. Each school day contains afternoon sessions lasting approximately one hour each which are devoted to sporting activities. School Programs include inter and intra-school competitive sport, outdoor recreational or adventure sports, fitness, sport development and physical recreation activities. Students are encouraged to participate in a way that suits their interests and abilities. Dastar Bandi competition was held in Akal Academy Dhotian, keeping the Sikhi intact among the young generations. The impressionable minds are inculcated with the root values of Sikhism and are fed with importance of Dastars (turbans). Students of the Academy tied Dastar there and represented the school as a Sikh School. Most of the participants tied a very good turbans. Principal graced the ceremony with her inspiring words,“The Sikh turban is not just a piece of cloth, but a symbol, with of hundreds of years of our history and heritage wrapped in it. May it always be a reminder for you to stand up for yourself and others who need help in this world.” Amid cries and zealous screams of Sikh Jaikaras, students were crowned with Dastars. While many young Sikhs in India and US are shunning their identity due to various reasons, on the other hand Dastar Bandi competition is being revived by those Sikh youth who are proud of their own heritage. The atmosphere echoed with “Sir Jaaye taa jaave, mera Sikhi Sidak Naa Jaave” making the atmosphere emotional and inspirational. Raising Sikhs of the Future with Value based education is the essence of Kalgidhar Trust, grooming a cluster of Sikh youths according to the Sikh tenets. Akal Academy Bhadaur organized “Inter House Football Matches” on 20.12.2014. It was conducted by Ajay House and the Sports Department. The competition was for classes from the 9th up to 12th class. The students actively participated in it, displaying their team spirit & sportsmanship. The Ist position was bagged by the Atul House followed by the 2nd position which was taken over by the Abhai House. The students took part enthusiastically in the events. Qualified coaches are provided for training in lead up to the competitions. The team bagged a lot of appreciations and good words for explicating the wonderful team spirit and winning the matches. Such Activities are designed for physical as well as mental fitness of the students along with academic excellence! Drug addiction is a global phenomenon affecting every sphere of the society. Because of high prevalence in Punjab, it has a grave repercussion on the family and the individual. Drug De-addiction Rally was conducted by Akal Academy Chak Mander involving students, staff members & parents together spreading awareness to combat such social evils. The young crowd whilst motivating the youth & families on their way through the streets of the village, marching with their powerful notions about a positive social change! A large number of students spoke about the ill effects of drug addiction and impressed upon the concerned agencies to act jointly to eradicate the menace of drug trafficking, its cultivation, sale and distribution to safeguard the future of the youth. On this occasion, a poster depicting the warning “Hugs Not Drugs”“Say No to Tobacco”“Drugs drag you down and down till you are under the ground” were circulated among the rural public. Children and young people are at significant risk on our roads. Keeping this in mind Road Safety competition was held at Akal Academy Salamkhera on 10th Dec’14. Three students from III-V and three Students from VI-VIII were selected for Block Level Competition which was held on 13.12.14.It Provides a great platform for schools to get involved and share important road safety messages with their pupils and the wider community. Road safety for children is a major social concern. Students of different school participated. Our Student bagged the First position and were selected for the District Level. In District level competition, Students of III-V class got 2nd position. Simran Kaur, Anshnoor Kaur, Avnoor Singh were awarded certificates & prizes for their performances. Uprising the buds of spirituality among the students, an appreciable effort was made by Akal Academy Navan Quilla, in keeping the principles of Sikhism rooted. 11 Students of Akal Academy Navan Quilla Ferozpur took Khande Baate Da Amrit at Wazidpur Gurudwara Sahib on 22nd Dec'14. The academies have been successful in imparting spiritual education with modern education sufficing the ideas laid by Baba Iqbal Singh ji. Akal Academy Bhadaur organized an “Awareness Programme Rally on Global warming” on 20 Dec, 2014. The students of 7th & 8th class marched all around the vicinity in the morning along with their respective teachers and the head of Go green club Mr. Sunil Kumar. It was led by the Principal. The main aim of the rally was to make the public aware and students against the ill effects global warming. The students held banners, slogan boards high up in the air. The surroundings echoed with slogan of the students who enthusiastically participated in the rally. It was a healthy awareness programme that was appreciated by local public.
