The day of Children, 14th November, is a day that can infuse fervor into each one of us; for joy of celebrating & cherishing carefree days of childhood, nothing can match watching the little young doing what they do the best – frolicking and smiling, for reasons that we, as adults, can only try recalling and relating; bringing us a reasonless smile, a sense of enjoyment, as our ‘sense-full’ minds fails to derive meaning behind their subtle pleasures of innocence.

This Children’s Day, the past weekend, took us to a virtual ride to the land of wonders where we alongside teachers, staff members & young little kids of village Akal Academy Gomti, almost lost our confined senses & has sheer fun and did amazing ‘masti’ while playing some crazzzy games and doing some ‘fundoo’ activities.

The Teachers invented some, well, differently creative bunch of activities for the children’s fest

Some highlights:

The ‘Jalebi’ Grab Race – a Race where kids had to (Quickly) literally Gulp a suspended Jalebi half way down the race.
The Kela (Banana) Hogger Try-Outs – the name speaks for itself.
Mr. Balloons-Run  – run to one end, grab balloons & stash them in the other corner.
The Tri-Cycle Battle – watch the kids drive-race what possibly each one of us drove in our childhood and can never fit one anymore.

‘The Zero External Tuition Culture’, followed across all Akal Academies

Another exquisite feature of Akal Academies that makes us stand distinct amongst other schools, is that all of the Akal Academies have always followed a record trend of absolutely ‘No-Outside-Tuitions’ for any of our students. “The culture is known to be followed like a religion by all our students, our students of Akal Academies do […]

Another exquisite feature of Akal Academies that makes us stand distinct amongst other schools, is that all of the Akal Academies have always followed a record trend of absolutely ‘No-Outside-Tuitions’ for any of our students.

“The culture is known to be followed like a religion by all our students, our students of Akal Academies do not know much or are unaware about the concept of tuitions, that is usually prevalent is trending amongst most public and city schools”, cited an experienced senior teacher, who has been serving Akal Academies since a decade.

The exclusive feature, which is supposedly unique or at least rarely amongst schools, especially in the current generation, is being devoutly adhered ever since the inception of Akal Academies – a culture being maintained all through our 27 glorious years.

Though most of the staff members of the organization know about the prevalence of this culture, but our young team of city-kids who managed to get through schools only through riding the expensive tuitions ferry, were highly intrigued to know and understand how this was possible and how the concept has managed to flourish across all academies at all times in parallel.

Upon some pleasantly intrusive keen investigations involving enquiring interviews, which were warmly welcomed, we learned the secret behind – the reason for no student is subscribing to the tradition of taking tuitions or even feeling the need for it and the reason was both stunning & commendable.

Surprisingly, the responsibility of support and guidance beyond schooling hours is fulfilled by the Academic staff – the Teachers themselves, and that too voluntarily and free of any kind of charges, within the school itself, even if it has to be working beyond the stipulated hours. This way the teachers always ensure there is no need for students to look for expensive tuitions, external help or guidance; they believe that course text books alongside focused training is sufficient to crack even through board examinations with flying colors.

This practice was conceptualized to address the concerns of rural and under-privileged students and their families, for whom affording tuitions was not even remotely possible, hence the concept was consciously designed – which has been successfully been observing its universal application across all Akal Academies, ever since.

So tuitions, totally free of charge, are in fact happening regularly within the school premises; primarily seeking to serve the purpose of addressing one-on-one needs of individual students, typically the-private-teachers-way in the cities do in the form of home tuitions; the process and the concept, perhaps, just evolved in a philanthropic and fantastic way for the rural folks!

Akal Academy Alumnus – Paramveer Singh Engineers Solutions for Ireland’s Telecom Solutions Giant

The expedition to find Super Achievers Alumni of Akal Academies lead us to Dublin City of Ireland, where we found S. The expedition to find Super Achievers Alumni of Akal Academies lead us to Dublin City of Ireland, where we found S. Paramveer Singh, 2005-06 Alumnus of Akal Academy Gomti, who is working as an Operational Engineer at ‘The NOW FACTORY’, an IBM company, which provides Communication Service Providers (CSPs) with customer analytics solutions that ensure network profitability and drive service innovation.

Paramveer, now 24, belongs to village Begpur, where he was born in a typical agrarian family, which subsequently diversified into auto-spare parts trading as an ancillary occupation to cope up with the agricultural slump. Paramveer, unlike his adaptive father, was never much interested into joining the family’s occupation at fields or the spares trade and luckily his father was supportive.

Paramveer Singh

Param, who did his entire schooling from Akal Academy located at Village Gomti, told us that ever since his secondary years at school, he had developed a clear focus about becoming an IT – Engineer. He further told us that he feels lucky that both his parents were always supportive about his indifferent career plans & understood his independent nature; he obtained a decent 89% in 10th & 85% in his 12th Board Examinations, studying independently by focusing only upon his session classes at school.

“The studies & assistance provided by school teachers was enough, the environment was such  – that none of us students actually ever felt the need for any external tuitions. Upon my results, my parent’s confidence in me & my indifferent plans about career was further concreted”, he told us during a recent telephonic interview. He recalls & cherishes memories about his favorite school teachers – ‘Khan Sir’ & Mr. Ashok Kumar – Mr. Khan was his G.K. teacher and sports coach while Mr. Kumar taught him English & Social Studies.

After schooling, he took up AIEEE, IIT, UP-TECH examinations whilst taking upon his career interests for Engineering, upon which he came to know about Information & Communication Eng. Bachelor’s course being offered at Dublin City University in Ireland, upon which he applied for the same after clearing the IELTS examinations obtaining the required score in his very first attempt in Sept 2007; his application was accepted and then there was no looking back for him.

After completing his Bachelors he further pursued Masters in Telecommunications at the same university and took up an internship thereafter, in which he maintained company portals before he was finally picked up by the IBM owned Telecom Solution Provider Giant “The Now Factory” company, his present employer.

In his present profile of ‘Operational Engineer’, Paramveer is responsible for handling his company’s world clients like Vodafone & T-Mobile (US).

About life at his village – Paramveer told us that the situation at his village, especially on the context of education had more of less stabilized back then as the Akal Academy alongside another Khalsa School did pretty much the work required to bring awareness about education amongst village people. “I feel that Akal Academy did an exceptional job on that front; they are the only reason I or other kids at village learned about Sikhi Faith & Dharam – the difference between the good & bad, had it not been them, no one, including me would know or follow much of any religion”, expressed Paramveer, upon being asked the relevance and influence his school has had on his life.

His message for the youth and students back home at his village: “Jee lagaa ke parho, burey kamaan to door raho; Guru waley paasey logogey te sab aape hi theek rahega!”
