Guru Ka Langar – A Message of True Oneness

On the tenth day of Ganpati visarjan, this year, more than 2,000 city police officers, including the traffic police and state reserve police force, enjoyed special ‘langar’ meals as they went about their work.

The Guru Singh Sabha prepares langar for about 400 people every  day. The police officers have the central community body of Sikhs in  the city, the Guru Singh Sabha, to thank for it. The Sabha has received  a letter of appreciation from the Matunga police station, where it had  sent 250 food parcels, for this service. “We have been serving food to  the police force on immersion days for the last two years, but this is  the first time we received a letter of appreciation,” said Manmohan  Singh secretary of the Sikh body.

Around 30 members of the Sabha prepared 800 packets of food on  the seventh day of the festival, and 2,200 parcels on the tenth day,  serving a wholesome meal of sheera, puri, channa and pulav to the  police officers. The Sabha prepares langar for about 400 people at the Dadar gurudwara every day.Guru Ka Langar – A Message of True Oneness

“One of the philosophies of our religion is that every Sikh is a policeman (sant sipahi) of society, which is why we try to assist he police in one way or the other,” Singh said.

Senior police inspector Raghvendra Thakur, from the Matunga police station, said “We appreciate the organisation’s efforts for our officers, and I sent a letter last week conveying our gratitude.”

The Sabha has offered similar services to the police on other occasions, such as during Bal Thackeray’s funeral at Shivaji Park last year.

Village Cheema’s Charanjeet : The Curious-brilliant Rural boy whose teenage lapsed at hands of Drugs.

Behind the tainted picture of society, lie secret faces of hidden serenity, requiring just one right push to bring forth the bright side of humans, for these men of steel having deep courage, enormous potential & with an unmatched will power have all powers to push human limits & stand-up tall to life, again.

DrugAbuse

Similar is the story of our today’s unusual hero from village Cheema’s Rehabilitation Centre, Charanjeet Singh a.k.a Channi (sitting in front-middle of the pic from Drug De-addiction Centre run by The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib) as his friends (sitting around him) know him. Channi’s life saw the most cruel of the crisis, a crash that broke-robbed him off of his own self, his own life; lapsing his entire teenage & career – Drug Addiction.

As a young child, Channi had misfortunately learnt to be independent at a very early age as his farmer father passed away while he was just 11, leaving little Channi behind with mother, a younger sister & his elderly loving Daadi.

The family’s only reprise was little fortune & a significant amount of cropped land that his father had tilled-grown with all his heart & sweat throughout his life; the money & yield from the fields was just enough to support the family until young Charanjeet would grow up into a responsible & mature young man to support his family, taking on his Father’s legacy, his fields; able enough to maintain the family’s living & getting his younger sister married.

As a child, young Channi received a chance to attend a govt. school at the district, not only was this fortunate, but also a blessing as reserved child Channi turned out to be a curious brilliant personality in his primary & secondary years of schooling, he was immaculate with numbers & always topped in almost all subjects till his matriculate, but destiny had stored a deadly sharp turn for him ahead of his otherwise prospering life until one of Channi’s closest friends i.e. Rocky (sitting on his right), was introduced to addictives during a post-examinationcelebration party.

At Rehabilitation Centre, Channi  & his group of drug-abused friends shared with us their gruesome tale of fantasy that took away all good from their individual healthy life, like a silent killer in disguise, that could not be seen by its victim.
Channi told us how Rocky was introduced to the most simplest & amateurish form of addiction to ingesting IODEX ( a popular pain relief ointment ); he tells us that this is mostly the first & the foremost addiction methods subscribed by the beginners, the aforesaid gel is ingested either on bread or mixed with cola drink to get a kick.

Rocky, who was introduced to this simple sounding yet the deadliest of addictions that directly ruins the liver & the kidney in an extreme way (even caused death in some cases), revealed that for all addicts, it always starts as a one-time-perceivably-no-harm-fun-activity that slowly becomes a habit that slowly enslaves your mind to itself, making it crave & starve for feeling the kick & high that take you into a world of great delusion wherein the addict feels it’s all getting great but in reality everything good from the victim’s life actually starts crumbling including work, social circle, family & most importantly internalHealth.

Channi, who was previously hospitalized in emergency due to liver failure caused by excessive abuse of narcotics in the form of weed & other highly addictive & dangerous substances, revealed that addiction works in a chained pattern, one substance leads to another. When your body has abused one drug & had reached its saturation point, your kicks will get lighter & eventually the highs will not be effective anymore & it’s then when your mind craves & starves for them at the worst levels possible & you get insanely looking for an alternate that can restore the same of even higher levels of perceived ecstasy that in reality is empty, hollow & temporary in nature – and if there is one thing that remains permanent, it’s the Damage it does to your life.

Charanjeet’s addiction got so fierce & extreme, that he crossed all limits & exhausted everything external that existed around him… loss wasn’t confined to health, but included all that was connected to him, he crashed at academic, couldn’t even clear his 12th, best of his childhood friends parted ways, almost whole of his family’s fortune got either wasted on drugs or paying his medical expenses, including a liver transplant; the father’s field had to be mortgaged, there were no yields for years & the land fell into the hands of other contractors who lent them money to pay off the bank loan.

“It all is like a one bad prolonged nightmare that sucked everything from my life, including my own-self & no different is story of anybody you see sitting here next to me, we all were friends for addiction, our real friends left us way back while we were careless, helpless, unaware, living unconscious like the walking deads”, expresses now recovered Channi with a serene face.

Channi was first brought to rehabilitation centre by his best childhood friend Ratan, who met Charanjeet almost an year ago & was shocked & grieved to learn about his ordeal & his family’s suffering.

Channi, Rocky & the group has now devotedly learnt the value of this precious life; they were given countless counseling sessions alongside spiritual guidance & knowledge that helped them gain control of their senses & get back to their normal lives –

“Our lives are transformed for good, through spirituality we learnt the importance of pain & suffering, we now feel fortunate & blessed that it all was a part of our repentance that we suffered such extremes, had this all not happened, had we not been brought here, we would have lived our lives in hell, we are thankful to The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib, the volunteers, the preachers & other professional doctors who gave the best of all they had to save & pulled us out from the burning flames that smothered us each day, each moment. We now believe in God, not because other say so, but because we have seen Him; he resides within the compassionate & the generous ones we comes across in our lives”, spoke Rocky on behalf of his group.

Rural Aces shine at Akal Academy ReethKheri: Super – 8 perfectionists of 2012-13

Toppers in Patiala District come from this rural school that also attracts 495 students from Patiala city.

Class 10th& 12th results for the academic session 2012-13 of village ReethKheri Akal Academy has set the rural women & the village abuzz; with as much 6 girl students from the academy scoring a perfect 10 point CGPA score in the 10th class CBSE examination, outshining the boys to attain the top spot in the toppers list this year.

Akal Academy, Reeth Kheri CGPA Toppers
The most stunning part to notice is that none of the students of Akal Academies are subscribed to the tradition of taking tuitions; in fact the responsibility of support & guidance beyond schooling hours is fulfilled by the Academy staff, within the school itself, even if it has to be working beyond the stipulated hours. Teachers always ensure there is no need for students to look for expensive tuitions or external guidance; they believe that course text books alongwith focused training is sufficient to crack through board examinations with flaring scores.

Whilst girls Sheetalpreet Kaur, Sukhvir Kaur, Ramandeep Kaur , Jashanpreet Kaur, Ustat Kaur & Narinder Kaur took a clean sweep at the 10th board exams, class 12th’s medical student Ramandeep Kaur  attained top spot amongst medical science stream students across village with her  score of 94%, that remained unbeatable.

Amongst boys rural Rupinder Singh from non-medical side showed the magic obtaining 94.8% aggregate score in the 12th CBSE board examinations to take the top spot amongst all boys at the village.

“All this is possible with the blessings of Almighty, our generous Patron Baba Iqbal Singh Ji, President of the KalgidharTrust, Baru Sahib under which the Akal Academies are running & the guidance & cooperation of the members & volunteers of the organization. We assure to only get better in future”, told the Principal Ms. Shaminder Pal Kaur of the Akal Academy Reethkheri.

Bus Services to Baru Sahib

Time takes its curve. There was a time in 1980’s when there were no bus services to Baru Sahib and the only way to reach was, to walk by foot or by horseback from Rajgarh. From the time when the first bus service started in 1986 and then two and now this many, time has taken a beautiful turn indeed!
Take a note of the bus routes and then forget about hassles to commute to Baru Sahib-

Akal Academy Gomti village’s Gurpreet Kaur honored with BAL RATAN 2013 Award!

A rural girl student of village Gomti’s Akal Academy received title of BAL RATAN 2013 at an exclusive district level inter-school competition held at Pushp Institute, Pilibhit, UP, which marked the final ceremony for the “BAL RATAN Hunt 2013”, an event organized by “Kabir Shanti Mission” every year.

Fotor0930174612

Gurpreet Kaur , a class 12th student of Akal Academy Gomti, alongside 2 more students from the Academy viz. Mahaveer Singh & Ashish Kumar registered a forceful presence at the event for the institute, competing with full gusto, facing fierce competition amongst equally talented participants from some of the top-notch schools of the district, like C.L.V.P Sarasvati Vidya Mandir, Shishu Bihar Inter-college, etc.

“Kabir Peace Mission”, an organization that seeks to develop positive thinking amongst students & youth by aspiring children with teaching of Saint Kabir to make them good citizens, organizes “BAL Ratan Khoj” every year to hunt for the brightest of the students to support & inspire them for a better future.

The ‘mission’ selects several schools from a particular district & holds an Essay writing competition to select participants for the competition, where the winners are invited to compete at district level, where they undergo a General Knowledge Test in the 2nd round. Then on the basis of merit 11 students are short listed for the final event, where all the finalists are provided topics to debate upon & give their speeches.

Out of the top 11 finalists, spots 1, 4 & 6 were acquired by our Akal Acade my Students by Gurpreet Kaur(1), Mahaveer Singh(4) & Ashish Kumar for the final debate. After a round of copious debate & majestic speech performances by the supremos, the selectors had a tough time rating the performances for the top 3 BAL RATANS of 2013; after giving a mindful consideration & taking up a fair amount of time, the verdict was given – Akal Academy’s Gurpreet was awarded 2nd position while C.L.V.P Sarasvati Vidya Mandir’s Amit Raj Singh won the 1st position with marginal difference wherein Shishu Bihar Inter-College Bilaspur’s Rohit Shankar settled 3rd.

Gurpreet Kaur, being the only female amongst the awarded winners, stole the show with her impressive & powerful speech; her joy knew no bounds as she also got an opportunity to be photographed alongside Chief Guest Mr. Gangwar, President Nagar Nigam, Pilibhit & the selection Board.

A beaming Principal Mrs. Rangbeer Kaur said “Kudos to Gurpreet Kaur & other students for bringing honor to the name of the Academy at an event of such repute & esteem”!
