New York’s Columbia University’s Super Enthusiast Volunteer Duo shares their love for Baru Sahib

Love and support from volunteers and members from across the globe has only grown stupendous over the recent years, its heartwarming to receive such great support & words of appreciation from overseas supporters like Angad Singh of New York’s Columbia University, who travelled all the way from New York to Baru Sahib with great enthusiasm and spirit to help promote the Akal Academies and its workings through his Blog & Video Log.

Angad Singh and his friend Chris Canales are students of Columbia University in the New York City, they visited Punjab, India in the summer of 2013 to film a documentary about the region’s sustainability crisis and its impact on local communities.

Participants of NAO Astronomy Olympiad – National Level Examination at Akal Academy Ajitsar Ratia.

NAO is one of the highly emerging concept among young generation. NAO stands for Journey to NASA – Astronomy Olympiad, being one of the unique and innovative platform, it also serves an opportunity to the students by providing them the exposure to astronomy and a chance to visit NASA.

Students of Akal Academy, Ratia participated in the examination and have been awarded with certificates.

Akhand Path Sahib – Bhog Ceremony and Amrit Sanchar at Akal Academy, Vachhoa!

14.4.2014, Amritsar, the day began with the Akhand Path Sahib bhog at 9:00 A.M at Akal Academy, Vachhoa to mark Vaisakhi celebrations at the academy.

Kirtan was performed and later students from different classes recited poetry in ‘Kavishri’ programme and speeches were also given on the occasion. The Kavishri event happened individually as well as in chorus.

The open invitation to the event was well received by the Sangat who were keen enough to join the Khalsa brotherhood. About 121 school students and about 50 other including staff members  were ‘Baptised’ on the occassion. The ‘Amrit Sanchar’ ceremony began at 11:00 am and went on till 3:00 pm.

“This gives me immense pleasure to announce that on September 2013, 84 students including staff members and about 37 outsiders had taken ‘Amrit Pahul’ in the academy but this time, we saw a greater enthusiasm where 121 school students and more than 50 individuals from outside received ‘Amrit pahul’ on the Baisakhi occasion.” said, Principal – Mrs.Baljit Kaur while thanking the ‘Panj Piaras’ and the ‘Sadh Sangat’.

‘Langar’ was prepared in the Academy premises. The members of the Staff served langar to the ‘Sangat’.

Annual function at Akal Academy Bilga!

Akal Academy Bilga celebrated its 17th annual function on 16th April, 2014, a day celebrated with enthusiasm and fervor. The chief guests of this function were Dr. Khem Singh Gill, former Vice Chancellor PAU Ludhiana and S. Gian Singh Ji Bains from Australia.

The function started with Shabad, Religious Poems, and songs sung by our tiny tots who really enthralled the atmosphere with their pious thinking. Dhaddi varan was also performed by senior students.

Principal Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Sahni read the annual report to the audience. Toppers of 10th & 12th were honored by mementos and the alumni of the academy, settled in good reputed jobs were also honored by Khem Singh Ji and S. Gian Singh Ji. Both the dignitaries spoke on the function and prayed for the prosperity and growth of the school. Above 600 parents enjoyed the celebrations. Principal Madam motivated the students to work hard and wished them luck to excel everytime. She tried to motivate them to keep them glued to studies for a better and brighter future.

At last Guru ka langar was served to all.

Village Uddat Saidewala Akal Academy’s Celebration of Vaisakhi!

On the occasion of Vaisakhi , students of Akal Academy located at village Uddat Saidewala observed dual celebrations on April 14th 2014 at the academy campus in full gusto. During the celebrations, students of the school recited Religious Poems, Shabads and Kavisharies; Sukhmani Sahib paths were also done post which ‘Karha Prasad’ was distributed to all students, teachers and staff members.

Ms. Harpreet Kaur Virk, alongside some students of class 7th, delivered speeches about Baisakhi in English while Ms. Baby Harpreet Kaur, the Punjabi Teacher, recited a beautiful poem containing praises about Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in Punjabi.

Towards conclusion, Headmistress Gurjeet Kaur delivered her speech and congratulated all teachers, students and staff members on this wonderful occasion, Vaisakhi – the birth day of Khalsa.

Also during the event, 3 students of the Academy were given recognition and presented with prizes for their remarkable ability to write backwards; the trio is able to write capital and small alphabets backwards, both in English and Punjabi. The honors were presented by the Headmistress herself; the activity was performed to motivate and inspire students and teachers towards work even harder.

Cheema Mandi, 11th April 2014: An ‘Amrit Sanchaar’ program was organized at the Gurdwara Sahib located at the birth place of Sant Attar Singh Ji at Cheema Mandi, wherein 65 young Students of Akal Academy Bhadaur took up Guru’s ‘Khande Baate Da Amrit’ through Five ‘Pyaras’ of the Gurdwara Sahib in the Divine presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The children were quite excited and enthusiastic about their initiation as Khalsas.

Principal Gurdeep Kaur of Akal Academy Bhadaur congratulated the baptized students post ‘Amrit Sanchaar’ ceremony saying “I feel blessed by witnessing this Divine ceremony. Now I know why Child is the Father of Man?”

Students of Akal Academy, Jhandiana perform Kirtan at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj!

 

The students of Akal Academy Jhandiana performed Kirtan at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj, Village Salina, Moga. The participating students were honoured by Sant Gurjant Singh ji.

The Kirtan Darbar was organised in the wake of promoting the message behind academic and spiritual studies at Akal Academies among the Sangat present to experience the mesmerizing Kirtan. Sant Gurjant Singh Ji was too impressed with the performances that he has yet again invited the students from the Academy to perform Kirtan during Baisakhi celebrations at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj.

The staff and the teachers were honored with Saropas to appreciate the kind efforts and to train the students upto this level of great performances.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for 126th Akal Academy!

In the loving memory of her Late Husband Choudhry Raminder Singh and Late Son Choudhry Dalip Singh; Mata Rajbans Kaur of Patti Ganga, Village Dhamot Kalan has donated land for the 126th Akal Academy at Dhamot Kalan (District Ludhiana, Punjab, India), to be run by The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib (H.P).

The Foundation Stone was laid by #BabaIqbalSingh in the presence of Gurpreet Singh Gill from Amritsar, Dr. Khem Singh Vice-President, PhD (California), Former Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and the Gurdwara Sangat at Gurdwara Sahib of 6th Guru, Patti Jetha, Dhamot Kalan.

14 March 2014~Cheema Sahib: To create awareness about relevance of the Turban & maintaining unshorn hair amongst youth, on the occasion of Sant Attar Singh Ji’s birth anniversary, a 14 days Training camp was organized at the Gurdwara Janam Asthan – Cheema Sahib from 1st to 14th March.

On the final day, a Smart Turban Typing Competition was observed. In the 8-12 yrs Group competition Sarabjeet Singh; Sarvan Singh Heeron Kalan; Ram Singh, Heeron Kalan won 1st 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Similarly amongst the 13-15 yrs age group, Parminder Singh, Heeron Kalan; Mahinderpal Cheema and Pravpreet Singh won 1st 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. The winners were honoured with Prizes by The Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib.
