A sardar ji from Malaysia is making maves in the area of Islamic finance. An innovative financial solution in the area of sukuk, or Islamic bonds, by his team has won them yet another award.

Charanjeev Singh and Danny Kwan, the founding partners of New Paradigm Capital Markets Sdn Bhd, picked up the Best Structured Finance Sukuk by the Asset at The Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Awards 2018.

The award recognises their role as financial adviser and deal structurer for SkyWorld Capital Berhad’s RM1.0 billion sukuk programme.

“This recognition means an incredible amount to all of us at NewParadigm Capital Markets, as we are able to have an active part in the development of the Malaysian bond market,” Charanjeev Singh said in a statement.

Established in 2005, NewParadigm Capital Markets is an independent and privately-owned corporate finance advisory firm licensed by the Securities Commission of Malaysia. It is in the niche business of providing independent, unconflicted financial and strategic advice on capital raising, financings, recapitalisation & restructurings and mergers & acquisitions to a diverse client base.

The sukuk under consideration is said to be the first structured transaction in Malaysia involving unbilled sales and the first in the world to involve affordable housing, as well as the first Shariah compliant securitisation of progress billings and monetisation of progress billings in the market globally.

The transaction monetises future payments to be received from the sale of yet-to-be-completed development projects allowing the Issuer to more efficiently manage project development cash flows, according to the statement.

ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸੱਤ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪਰਿਕਰਮਾ ‘ਚ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਖਿੜੇ-ਮੱਥੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਦਕੀ ਮਸਤਕ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੁਕੀ ਲਹੂ ਭਿੱਜੀ ਪੀੜ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦੀ ਪਰ ਫਰੋਲਣ ‘ਤੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਲੂੰ ਕੰਡੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੀਰਾ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਸੋਢੀ ਵਾਲਾ ‘ਚ 90ਵੇਂ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਮਾਤਾ ਦਾ ਚਾਰ ਪੁੱਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਧੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੱਸਦਾ-ਵੱਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਵਾਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਵੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ‘ਚ ਚੱਲੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਹਨੇਰੀ ਦੇ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਧਰੋਂ ਇਸ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਲਗਾ ਬੈਠੇ ਤੇ 1991 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਕਫੇ ‘ਚ ਹੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ 23, 22, 18, 14 ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਜਵਾਨ ਪੁੱਤ ਅਤੇ 8 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਲੜੀ ਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਮੇਂ ਅੱਤਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਅ ਹੇਠ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ‘ਚੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪੁੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਧੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਸਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੀ।
ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਰਸਭਿੰਨੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਰਿਕਰਮਾ ‘ਚ ਅਡੋਲ ਬੈਠੀ ਉਕਤ ਸਿਰੜੀ ਮਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਾਸਤਾਨ ‘ਚ ਦੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤਰਲੋਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਿੰਡਰਾਂਵਾਲੇ ਕੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਸੁਣਨ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖੀ ਰਹਿਤ ਦਾ ਧਾਰਨੀ ਸੀ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ ਖਾੜਕੂਆਂ ‘ਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕਰਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਮਾਰਚ 91 ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ‘ਚ ਛਾਪਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ, ਕੋਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੀ 8 ਸਾਲਾ ਮਾਸੂਮ ਭੈਣ ਸ਼ਰਨਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੀਕਾਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਟ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਵੱਲ ਵਧੀ ਤਾਂ ਅਗਲੇ ਪਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਢੇਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਮੇ ਕੁਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਚੇ ਤਿਨੋਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ‘ਚ ਦਹਿਸ਼ਤ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਕੱਲੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਧੀ-ਪੁੱਤ ਦਾ ਸਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਬਰ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ ਚਾਰ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ 22 ਸਾਲਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਸੇਮ ਨਾਲੇ ‘ਚ ਲਾਸ਼ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਖਾੜਕੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਨਾਹ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ‘ਚ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਚੁੱਕ ਲਿਆ ਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਤਸ਼ੱਦਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਚਿਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਛੋਟੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਮਰ 18 ਸਾਲ ਤੇ ਬਲਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ 14 ਸਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ ਸਤੰਬਰ, 91 ਤੇ ਦਸੰਬਰ, 91 ‘ਚ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਅੰਦਰਖਾਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਚਿਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਮਿਲੀ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤ ‘ਚ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਕਈ ਕੇਸ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ-ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਹੁੰ ਖਿੱਚਣ ਵਰਗੇ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ। ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਸੈਂਟਰਲ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ‘ਚੋਂ ਕਰੀਬ ਡੇਢ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਜਦੋਂ 1993 ‘ਚ ਉਹ ਬਾਹਰ ਆਈ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਰੀਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੈਲੀ, ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਵੀ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਘਰ ਨਾ ਪਰਤੀ ਤੇ ‘ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ’ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ‘ਚ ਆ ਗਈ।
ਭਾਣਾ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਿਆ
ਉਪਰੋਕਤ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਮਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਪਰ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਤਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ‘ਤੇ ਲੱਦਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤਾ। 26 ਸਾਲ ਦਿਨੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਰਾਂ ‘ਚ ਸਮਾਂ ਲੰਘਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿੱਥਿਆ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖੀ ਲਹਿਜੇ ‘ਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾਈ। ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਰ ਤੇ ਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੈਣ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ‘ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਨ ਓਹੀ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ, ਫਿਰ ਰੋਸ ਕਾਹਦਾ’। ਆਪਣੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਇਕ ਸੂਟ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਿਫਾਫੇ ‘ਚ ਲਪੇਟੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ‘ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਮਿਹਣਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਦਦ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਏ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਤਸ਼ੱਦਦ ਦੇ ਗਵਾਹ ਖਿੱਚੇ ਨਹੁੰਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਫੇਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਦੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨ ‘ਚ ਵਿਰਾਗ ਤਾਂ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਨੇ 8 ਸਾਲ ਰੋਟੀ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਧੀ ਪਰ ਇਥੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਦਕ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਕਿਸੇ ਪਛਤਾਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਆਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਕਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਤਾਹੀ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਵੀ ਪਰਿਕਰਮਾ ‘ਚ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਣ, ਬੱਸ ਇਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਇੱਛਾ ਹੈ।

एक दिन संध्या के समय श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी के दर्शन करने के लिए हिमाचल के साकेत शहर का राजा आया।
 
गुरुदरबार में कीर्तन चल रहा था।
रागी शबद गा रहे थे-
 
लेख ना मिटिये हे सखी
जो लिखेया करतार
 
राजा ने प्रश्न किया- महाराज! अगर किस्मत के लेख मिटते नहीं हैं,तो संगत करने का क्या लाभ है?
 
श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी ने कहा- इसका उत्तर आपको समय आने पर देंगें।अभी आप कुछ आराम कर लीजिये।
 
राजा रात को सोया तो उसे स्वप्न आया,कि उसका एक अति दरिद्र परिवार में जन्म हुआ है और उसका जीवन अत्यंत दरिद्रता में बीत रहा है।वो युवा हुआ, उसका विवाह हुआ और उसे चार संतानें हुईं।उसके जीवन के चालिस वर्ष बीत चुके हैं।
एक दिन बच्चों की जिद पर वो एक पीलू के वृक्ष पर चढ़कर उनके लिए पीलू तोड़कर नीचे फेंक रहा है और कुछ खुद भी खा रहा है।एक पके गुच्छे को तोड़ने के लिए वो जैसे ही थोड़ा ऊपर उठा तो उसका पैर फिसल गया,और वो धड़ाम से नीचे गिर गया।
राजा यकदम उठ बैठा।भोर हो रही थी और वो दातुन करने लगा,तो मुंह से एक पीलू का बीज निकला।राजा आश्चर्यचकित हो गया।
 
सुबह जब वो गुरु दरबार में आया,
तो श्री गुरू अर्जुन देव जी ने उसे वन विहार करने के लिए चलने को कहा।और श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी और राजा वन के लिए चल पड़े।
 
राजा वन में श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी से बिछड़ गया,और प्यास से व्याकुल होकर जल की तलाश में एक नगर में जा पहुँचा।
 
कुएं पर पानी भरती औरतों से जब उसने पानी माँगा तो वो भय से चीखने लगीं।राजा अभी हैरान खड़ा ही था कि कुछ बच्चे उससे आकर लिपट गए।कुछ बड़े बजुर्ग और एक औरत उसे हैरानी से देख रहे थे।
 
राजा ने उन्हें थोड़ा गौर से देखा- अरे! ये क्या,

पर इनका अस्तित्व कैसे हो सकता है?राजा अभी ये सोच ही रहा था,कि सब लोग उसे खींचकर बेटा, बापू और स्वामी कहते हुए लिपट गए।
 
तभी श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी वहां आ गए।
राजा ने श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी से खुद को बचाने की गुहार लगाई।
 
श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी ने उन लोगों से पूछा- आप इन्हें अपने साथ क्यों ले जा रहे हो?
 
उन्होंने कहा- ये हमारा परिजन है।
इसे ईश्वर ने हमारे लिए वापिस भेजा है।
अभी कल ही ये बच्चों के लिए पीलू तोड़ने के लिए वृक्ष पर चढ़ा था,और वृक्ष से गिरने से इसकी मौत हो गई थी।
कुछ और परिजनों के इंतजार में इसका शरीर वैधराज के पास रखा था।हम उसे ही लेने आज जा रहे थे,कि ये जीवित होकर हमारे सामने आ गया।
 
श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी ने कहा- भले लोगों! ये आपका परिजन नहीं है।आपके परिजन का शरीर वैध के घर में सुरक्षित पड़ा है।
 
लोग राजा और श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी के साथ वैध के घर गए,
और हूबहू राजा से मिलती देह देखकर हैरान रह गए।
उन्होंने राजा से माफी मांगी और उन्हें विदा किया।
 
श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी ने राजा से कहा – राजन! तुमने कहा था ना कि अगर लिखा मिट नहीं सकता है,
तो सत्संग का क्या लाभ?
आप जो अभी देख के आ रहे हो,
वो आपका आने वाला जन्म था।
जो आपको इस जन्म के कुछ गलत कार्यों के कारण भोगना था।
*लेकिन साधू जनों की संगत करने के कारण श्री गुरु नानक देव जी ने आपकी दरिद्रता के चालिस साल,
एक सपने में ही व्यतीत कर दिए।*
*जिस तरह राजमुद्रा पर अंकित अक्षर उल्टे होते हैं,
लेकिन स्याही का संग मिलते ही वो राजपत्र पर सीधे छपते हैं,
उसी तरह सत्संग का साथ हमारी मलिन बुद्धि को सीधे राह पर डाल देता है।*
 
राजा ये वचन सुनकर,
धन्य श्री गुरु अर्जुन देव जी कहते हुए उनके चरणों में नतमस्तक हो गया।

सरहदी गांव दोना नानका में पहली बार ख़ुशी के ढोल बजे है।  सरहदी गावों में हमेशा तभी ढोल बजते है जब सतलुज में बाढ़ आती थी या सरहद पर तनाव के चलते चौकसी के ढोल खड़कते है इसी तरह किसी मुसीबत के समय में इन गावों में ढोल खड़कते रहे है।  सरहदी गावों में पहली बार कहीं से कोई ख़ुशी की हवा का झोंका आया है।  दोना नानका की बेटी का पशु चिकित्सक बनने के लिए गुरु अंगद देव वेटेनरी यूनिवर्सिटी में दाखिला हुआ है।  सतलुज के पार के सरहदी गावों में मेडिकल विद्या लेने वाली यह पहली लड़की सतनाम कौर है।  मेडिकल के प्रवेश मुकाबले “नीट” के आरक्षित वर्ग में पंजाब से इस लड़की का 72 वा रैंक है।  फाजिल्का के गांव दोना नानका की इस बेटी ने नए रास्ते खोले है।  सतनाम कौर उर्फ़ संतो बाई ने सरहदी गावों के और बेटियों के लिए उम्मीद की खिड़की खोली है, जिनको कभी गांव से बाहर निकलने की कभी सोची ही नहीं।  सरकारी प्राइमरी स्कूल दोना नानका के नेशनल अवॉर्डी अध्यापक लवजीत सिंह ग्रेवाल यूनिवर्सिटी में दाखिला होने के बाद जब गांव पहुँचे तो गांव के लोगों ने ख़ुशी के मारे ढोल बजाए।  राय सिख बिरादरी के लोगों को सिर्फ इतना पता था की गांव की लड़की डॉक्टर बनेगी।  उन्होंने लड़की के गले में नोटों के हार पहनाए।  लड़की के बुजुर्ग पिता बंता सिंह से ख़ुशी संभाली नहीं जा रही थी।  माँ माया बाई इतनी खुश थी जैसे कोई खज़ाना मिल गया हो।  सरहदी गावों, जो हर तरह की सुविधाओं से महरूम है, में से यह बेटी अब एक रोल मॉडल बन कर उभरी है।  प्राप्त जानकारी अनुसार गुरु अंगद देव वेटरनरी यूनिवर्सिटी के टेस्ट में इस लड़की ने बाहरवां स्थान प्राप्त किया है।  जब यह बच्ची गांव के सरकारी प्राइमरी स्कूल में पढ़ती थी तब अध्यापको ने उसको प्रोत्साहित किया।   मुख्य अध्यापक लवजीत ग्रेवाल को इस लड़की से बहुत उम्मीद थी।  पहली कामयाबी तब हाथ लगी जब पांचवी क्लास की परीक्षा में यह लड़की पंजाब से प्रथम स्थान पर आई।  उसने 450 में 446 अंक प्राप्त किये।
प्रवासी भारतीय गुरजीत सिंह ढींडसा एवं लखविंदर सिंह गिल ने इस लड़की की पढ़ाई का सारा खर्चा उठाने का भरोसा दिया।  अकाल अकादमी बडू साहिब में इस लड़की को छ्ठी कक्षा में भर्ती किया गया।  उसने मेडिकल वर्ग में बाहरवीं की परीक्षा में 93 % अंक प्राप्त किये।  उसके पश्चात प्रवेश परीक्षा की तैयारी के लिए चंडीगढ़ में लड़की को दोना नानका स्कूल के अध्यापको ने कोचिंग दिलवानी शुरू की।  कोचिंग का सारा खर्चा स्कूल के अध्यापको ने उठाया।  सतलुज पार के गावों का यह हाल है कि दो साल पहले ही सारे गावों को एक सीनियर सेकेंडरी स्कूल नसीब हुआ है।  लोगो को ना ही कोई बौद्धिक ज्ञान है और ना ही कोई सुविधा है।  किसी लड़की ने पहले कभी बाहरवीं तक की पढ़ाई करने का सपना भी नहीं देखा था।  दोना नानका में प्राइमरी स्कूल की स्थापना होने के बाद लड़कियों ने सपने लेने शुरू किया है और एक लड़की बी.एस.सी. नर्सिंग करने लगी है।  लोग बताते है की इन गावों में कोई विरले ही पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट होंगे।  सतनाम कौर के माता पिता भी काफी गरीब है।  कर्जा ले कर उन्होंने अब दो कमरे बनाए है।

In 1506 A.D. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji stepped on the land of Odisha when he was on his tour to Assam and Bengal. Guru Nanak Ji took shelter at the city of Cuttack at a small cottage near the stay of a person named Chaitany Bharati who was a mesmerist. He used to perform witchcraft with the motive of mobilizing Bhairav. Due to the influence of Guru Nanak Ji several people used to gather there and started following him as well. Seeing this Chaitanya Bharti’s heart was full of jealousy and hatred for Nanak Ji and hence he started applying witchcraft to divert the attention of the people from Guru Nanak Dev Ji. But, all his trials were worthless.

One day Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was performing meditation. At the same time Chetanya Bharati arrived there and tried attacking on Nanak Ji by a broken branche of Sahada tree nearby. When Guru Nanak Dev Ji opened his eyes the branch of the tree fell down from the hands of Chetanya Bharati and he started weeping distressingly. He then touched the feet of Guruji with agony. By the influence of the kind advices of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chetanya Bharati turned into an adorer of almighty God and also became his disciple.

Another morning Chetanya Bharati offered a branch of the Sahada tree to Guruji to brush His teeth. Guru Nanak Ji used a small part of that branch and implanted the rest which then grew into a huge tree. That tree got perished in 1930 and research scholars who examined the tree declared to be of the ancient time. It is believed that another tree was sprouted from the root of the same tree which is now admired by the Sikhs to recall the memory of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and from then Gurdwara Guru Nanak Datan Sahib came into existence.

ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੋਨਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਦਫ਼ਾ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਢੋਲ ਵੱਜੇ ਹਨ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਖਿੱਤੇ ਚ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਉਦੋਂ ਢੋਲ ਬਾਜ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਤਲੁਜ ਚ ਹੜ੍ਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਾਂ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਤੇ ਤਣਾਅ ਮੌਕੇ ਚੌਕਸੀ ਦੇ ਢੋਲ ਖੜਕਦੇ ਸਨ।ਆਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਸਮੇਂ ਵੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਚ ਢੋਲ ਖੜਕਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਕਿਧਰੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਹਵਾ ਰੁਮਕੀ ਹੈ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਦਾ ਵੈਟਰਨਰੀ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੇਵ ਵੈਟਰਨਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚ ਦਾਖਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਸਤਲੁਜ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਚੋਂ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਲੜਕੀ ਸਤਨਾਮ ਕੌਰ ਹੈ। ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਨੀਟ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਵੇਂ ਵਰਗ ਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੋਂ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਦਾ ਵਾਂ 72 ਰੈਂਕ ਹੈ। ਫਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਧੀ ਨੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਰਾਹ ਖੋਲ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ।ਸਤਨਾਮ ਕੌਰ ਉਰਫ਼ ਸੰਤੋ ਨੇ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਖਿੱਤੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਉਮੀਦ ਦੀ ਖਿੜਕੀ ਖੋਲ ਲਈ ਹੈ,ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਜੂਹ ਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਚੇਤਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਇਮਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੋਨਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦਾ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਐਵਾਰਡੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਲਵਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚ ਦਾਖਲਾ ਹੋਣ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਪੁੱਜਾ ਤਾਂ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਚ ਢੋਲ ਵਜਾਏ।ਰਾਏ ਸਿੱਖ ਬਰਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ ਇੰਨਾ ਕੁ ਪਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਲੜਕੀ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਬਣੇਗੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੜਕੀ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਨੋਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਾਰ ਪਾਏ।
   ਲੜਕੀ ਦੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਪਿਤਾ ਬੰਤਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਸਾਂਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ, ਮਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਾਈ ਇੰਨੀ ਬਾਗੋਬਾਗ ਸੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਰਵੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਚੋ ਇਹ ਧੀ  ਹੁਣ ਰੋਲ ਮਾਡਲ ਬਣਨ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ। ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਦੇਵ ਵੈਟਨਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਟੈਸਟ ਚੋਂ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਨੇ 12 ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਿਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਬੱਚੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਇਮਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਲਾਸ਼ੇਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ।ਮੁੱਖ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਲਵਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਉਮੀਦ ਬੱਝੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਲੱਗੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਸਨੇ 450 ਅੰਕਾਂ ਚੋਂ  446 ਅੰਕ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਲਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਖਰਚਾ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।ਅਕਾਲ ਅਕੈਡਮੀ ਬੜੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਲੜਕੀ ਦਾ ਛੇਵੀਂ ਕਲਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਵਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਚੋਂ 93 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਅੰਕ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੇ।ਉਪਰੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਲਈ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਚ ਲੜਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਨਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੋਚਿੰਗ ਦਿਵਾਉਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਕੋਚਿੰਗ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਖਰਚਾ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ।ਸਤਲੁਜ ਪਾਰ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਹਾਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦੋ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਸੈਕੰਡਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਵਿਧਾ ਹੈ।ਕਿਸੇ ਲੜਕੀ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਵੀਂ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਇਮਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੀ ਝੰਡੀ ਹੋਣ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਲੈਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ।ਇੱਕ ਲੜਕੀ ਬੀ ਐਸ ਸੀ ਨਰਸਿੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ ਲੋਕ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਟਾਵਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੋਸਟ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੁਏਟ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।ਸਤਨਾਮ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਪੇ ਵੀ ਕਾਫੀ ਗਰੀਬ ਹਨ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਹੁਣ ਦੋ ਕਮਰੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ।

Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo, Bhatinda, is the fifth seat of the authority of Sikhs. This place owes its importance to the literary work of Guru Gobind Singh Ji done here during his stay in 1706.

It was at Damdama Sahib that Guru Gobind Singh Ji prepared the revised and authentic version of the Adi Granth which is now being honored by the Sikhs as Guru Granth Sahib Ji, their perpetual Guru or spiritual guide or teacher. He added to the original version prepared by Guru Arjan Dev Ji the verses of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. A large number of new converts joined the fold of the Khalsa here. Guru Gobind Singh Ji stayed at Damdama Sahib for nearly a year.

One of the Five Takhats or Seat of Authority of the Sikhs. This takhat is situated at Batinda in Punjab, India and is the place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs prepared the full version of the Sikh Scriptures called Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in 1705. The Damdame Wali Bir or Damdami Bir as it is sometimes called was completed here by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It was transcribed by Bhai Mani Singh Ji. The hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji , the ninth Guru and father of Guru Gobind Singh Ji were added into the Bir.

Sukhmeet’s commitment to the environment became evident when he travelled to the Arctic and lived in Inuvik, Northwest Territories for six months. While he was 200 km above the Arctic Circle, Sukhmeet taught biology, physics, and environmental sciences to Indigenous youth at a local high school.
 
With a background in science, he explored the effects that climate change will have on human health. Upon meeting with Indigenous elders, Sukhmeet learned how climate change will impact the livelihood of the Inuit population living up North. When he listened to stories from these elders, he learned the true significance of how crucial it is to keep our environment in check.
 
Because of this change in the livelihood of the Indigenous population living in the North, Sukhmeet explored the impact this would have on their mental health. Specifically, this would result in solastalgia or the feeling of being away from home even when you are at home. With mental health already being a major concern in the North, this would exacerbate the situation.
Thus, Sukhmeet co-created Break The Divide to connect youth in the North to youth in southern Canada to explore the topics of climate change and its effects on mental health. By personifying the effects of environmental degradation in the Arctic, Indigenous youth can teach other youth about these risks so that they can work together to think of solutions.
 
Sukhmeet was instrumental in starting a Break The Divide chapter in Inuvik. He conducted focus groups with students to ensure that this idea would be sustainable and something that the community would benefit from. Since its implementation, there have been many video calls between students in Inuvik, Northwest Territories and students in Delta, British Columbia.
 
For his great work, Sukhmeet was awarded a scholarship by the Vancouver Foundation and the Michaëlle Jean Foundation called the 2017 Fresh Voices Relationship with Indigenous People in Canada Award.
 
Due to the success of Break The Divide, Sukhmeet has been recently selected as one of 1,000 leaders from around the world to represent Canada and travel to Singapore for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Conference. Here, he will discuss the positive impact that Break The Divide is having on the mental health of youth and how it is raising awareness about climate change.
 
Sukhmeet also served as his school’s BC Hydro School Ambassador. He worked on energy audits and planned initiatives to create a more environmentally-conscious school.
He also created the Surrey Youth Sustainability Network with a group of his friends to bring together youth from all secondary schools in the Surrey School District.
Currently, he is also working with a few of his professors from Western University to publish academic papers on the impact of climate change on the mental health of Inuit populations in the Arctic.

To help the family members of Indian farmers who committed suicides, founder of Nomadic Lion David Atthowe undertook a 6,000 km walk from Kanyakumari to Amritsar to raise funds for ‘Rescue a Family’ project under the banner of ‘Walk of Joy India.’

27-year-old David, a UK national, says that, “We want to provide the farmers’ widows with Rs 1,000 as pension per month for a long term while educating them on better farming practices. We want to help them develop new skills and develop employment opportunities and ensure that the children are not forced into work at an early age and to make sure they can still complete their education.”

David began the walk on July 15 and intended to complete it in 12 months here, covering 14 states.

Nomadic Lion initiated the walk in partnership with the United Sikhs and The Better India.

He added that ‘Walk of Joy’ would be the biggest participatory walk ever in the history of India to reach out to millions of people around the country with a positive message. “

‘Million Smiles’ was a campaign to share simple, everyday moments of happiness and joy. “The goal is to share one million smiles and positive stories from around the globe,”

He said in the last two decades more than three lakh farmers had committed suicides in India, leaving behind widows and children, who were left to survive without a father or a husband. “There are many reasons for suicides but it is generally agreed that the problems begin as a result of the so-called Green Revolution, which was the intensification of agriculture in India.

The idea was that only high yields were important while environment and sustainability were of little significance. This meant use of lots of pesticides, fertilisers, and water. The short-term results showed greatly improved yields but the long-term results, however, have been disastrous,” he quipped.

Sikh Youth of BC Celebrate ‘Sant Teja Singh Ji Day’

Past this weekend, the Sikh youth paid tribute to a Saint Scholar, Principal/Sant Teja Singh (MA LLB Am Harvard), founder of Kalgidhar Trust, Baru Sahib.

A three day program was organized, to remember the first Ambassador of Sikhism to the Western Hemisphere. Sant Teja Singh Ji established the KhalsaDiwan Society and had successfully proved to the Canadian government that all the Sikhs are highly capable people (When Govt. was planning to send all Sikhs to Honduras)of constantly contributing to the economy. Teja Singh Ji had a vision for the future of Sikhs in Canada and had laid out the foundation for us to carry his legacy forward.

The event spanned over three days, starting on Friday June 29th with the Akhand path Arambh in the morning and in the evening there was a Katha Darbar hosting Bhai Gurvinder Singh Ludhiane Wale, GianiSurinder Singh and Bhai Mehtaab Singh who presented in English. On Saturday evening there was a Dhadhi Darbarfeaturing Gaini Pritpal Singh Bains, Gaini Milkha S Mauji, and Gaini Surjit S Varas.

The main event was July 1st, SantTeja Singh Day, with the Akhand path Bhog in the morning followed by Gurmat Samagam and then a conference on Teja Singh from 11am to 2 pm. The Conference at Gurdwara Sukh Sagar New Westminster,was highlighted by Dr. Khem S Gill, Vice-President The Kalgidhar Trust/Society (former Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University) and special appearances by Prof. Gurvinder S Dhaliwal, S. BhagwanSingh Johal (India), Dr. Sarbjit S Virk Head Seattle Chapter Baru Sahib and Bhai Paneet Singh (Canada).

The speakers spoke about Sant Teja Singh Ji’s legacy and contributions to the South Asian Community in Canada. The event was attended by many people from all over lower mainland. The event was enjoyed by the Sangat, with an opportunity to view a special exhibition on Sant Teja Singh Ji, hosted by the volunteers of Akal Academy. The exhibition on Sant Teja Singh Ji, shed light on the lasting contribution to the sangat of the lower mainland during his mission to the west in the early 1900’s.
