The management of the Kalgidhar Trust under the divine leadership of Hon’ble Baba Iqbal Singh Ji(former director of Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh) is well aware of being nerve centre of creating excellence in education. Akal College of Nursing, Baru Sahib (H.P.) has held four International conferences on subject themes, Nursing Informatics, Global Nursing, Community Nursing & a workshop on Simulation was conducted by our collaborative partners Drexel University USA recently.
Akal College of Nursing, Eternal University, Baru Sahib was established in 2008 and is the first Nursing College in Himachal Pradesh. Recently this college marked another milestone in nursing by being the first college in Himachal Pradesh to start M.Sc. Nursing in three fields of specialty i.e. medical-surgical nursing, Pediatric Nursing and Obstetrical &Gynecological Nursing.
On 10th October 2014 there is a Symposium and a Pre-Conference workshop. Symposium is on Substance Abuse and De-addiction which is being held by Akal College of Public Health in collaboration with De-Addiction center run by Kalgidhar trust. The Pre- Conference workshop on HIV/AIDS is being held by Akal College of Nursing. The 4th International Nursing Conference is on 11th and 12th October 2014.
The objective of the conference is to be aware of the new advances in gynecology and obstetrical nursing, to practice the new techniques in clinical care both in gynecology and obstetrical nursing, to initiate research studies in midwifery practice and to discuss the challenges and issues related to midwifery care. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Gynecology& Obstetrical Nursing: new insight in research, diagnosis and clinical care’.
There will be three plenary sessions. Plenary Session I includes “New insight into Diagnosis and Clinical Care in Gynecology and Obstetrics”, Plenary Session II includes “New Insight into Midwifery Care and Management”, Plenary Session III includes “New insight into Research in Gynecology & Obstetrics”
Collaborative partners of the International Conference from Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA are Dr. Jill .B. Derstine(Clinical Associate Professor) , Dr. Jane Greene Ryan(Clinical Assistant Professor), Dr. Sandra Friedman(Clinical Assistant Professor) and Dr. Mary Lu McHugh(Clinical Assistant Professor) along with the Faculty of Akal College of Nursing. The conference is sponsored by Govt. of India agencies like Indian Council of medical Research, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Department of Science and Technology and Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society. The Chief Guest for the 4th International Conference is Dr. Jaishree Sharma (Directorate Research and Medical Education H.P). In addition Nursing Registrar of HPNRC, dean, Principals, Faculty and students of Himachal Pradesh are also attending this conference. Himachal Pradesh Governor Mrs. Urmila Singh has given a message for the Souvenir of the 4th International Conference.
Eminent National Nursing personalities who would grace this occasion are Dr. Prakasamma Executive Director of Academy For Nursing Studies and Women’s Empowerment Research Studies (ANSWER), Dr. Reena Bose Former President of Indian Nursing Council (INC), Mrs. Bandana Bhattacharya President (Society of Midwives of India) SOMI Delhi chapter, Ms. Bandana Das President SOMI Dr. Sandhya Ghai PrincipalNational Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) PGIMER Chandigarh. This International conference is fourth in the row, it has become a platform of collaborative learning in the North India.
Mrs. Sujana Chakravarty Former Secretary General Trained Nursing Association of India (TNAI) is the convener of the conference. High profile Nursing Faculty and M.Sc. Nursing students from different colleges of Nursing of Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi ,Punjab and Gujarat are also going to actively participate in this event.
The next International Conference on Nursing education would be held in the month of October 2015.
