Inter House Athletic Meet was conducted at Akal Academy, Chugawan built in the memory of S. Chambail Singh. The meet began with an impressive inaugural ceremony.

The events included 100m, 200m, 400m, hurdle, relay, long jump, high jump, short put and some fun races for K.G. students was also organized.

The events followed the preplanned sequence amidst the excited and cheering spectators. Among the four houses, Amul house emerged as a winner. All the students participated with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Speaking on the occasion & appreciating the efforts put in, the Principal spoke at length about how participating in sports and games plays a vital role in instilling in young minds important values like discipline, dedication and the spirit of sportsmanship.

Such events provide opportunities to these rural kids make a mark of their own in their field of interest.

With the era of modernization, it is essential for the students to excel their skills in practically every domain of life.

So, this platform was provided by ‘Brain O Brain’ for the students to brush up their abilities. It was established in 2003 as a full-fledged programme for unique skill development, where the children’s brain are nurtured to develop some of the foundation skills for learning. It empowers them with a good boost of self-confidence.

Activities such as Mental Maths, Logical Activity, T.V. Champs, Speed Handwriting are conducted as a part of the skill development programme.

A few Students of Akal Academy Gomtipul also participated in this and they proved their knowledge at its best.

They achieved a remarkable position in the competition.
Our Achievers were as follows

Shivansh Pandey of class III A bagged the 1st position in the Puranpur city in Mental Maths and achieved 6th in logical activity at State level out of 1285 students.

He got a Gold Medal and a Silver medal with certificate.

Lakshya Agarwal of same grade achieved 4th rank in mental maths and 13th in logical activity out of 1285 participants at the state level. He got a Gold Medal and a certificate.

Adarsh Singh took 10th rank in Mental Maths in the city, 6th in the state out of 1120 participants. He got a Gold Medal and a certificate.

To begin with, the resource person Mr. Trilok Kaushik and his team were welcomed by the host Principal Akal Academy Kajri, Mrs. Simran Kaur Thind and Mrs Rangbir Kaur, Cluster head of Akal academies U.P region. Later Mrs Kanchan Mishra HOD DEPT OF HINDI briefly highlighted the schedule of the workshop and welcomed the participating teachers from Akal Academy Kajri, Akal Academy Gomti, Akal Academy Telipura About 18 Hindi Language teachers of these academies attended the workshop with great learning zest, and enthusiasm.

In the opening session, the resource person called upon the need of the participants one by one to read Swara and Vyanjna. He elaborated on the need of correct pronunciation, accent of the same to bring accuracy in both spoken and written.

In the second half of the first day, problems faced by teachers and children in poetry and prose teaching and reading were widely discussed. Teachers’ queries were answered with examples taken from course books. Later teachers were motivated to compose poem in blank verse. In the concluding session of the first day feedback from the teachers was taken and their general queries were answered.

The second day of the workshop was practical based. Mr. Trilok Kaushik welcomed the participants and motivated the teachers to compose moral based story. A visual poem was shown and its critical appreciation was practically done by the teachers. To boost up writing skills, creativity of the learners, tips were given on formal and informal letter writing. During the entire workshop Teachers remained sincerely engrossed in their work. On the closing day Teachers’ feedback was taken, their general and personal teaching problems were taken into consideration. Finally feedback of the teachers was recorded and the Principal Mrs. Simran Kaur Thind thankfully bid adieu to the resource people and the participants. Mrs. Rangbir Kaur Cluster Head of Academies too expressed her satisfaction on the outcome of the workshop. She thanked Cordova Publications and the resource person Mr. Trilok Kaushik for his valuable contribution. It was really a wonderful learning experience for the teachers. Mr. Philip Xavier, (Media Coordinator), Mr. Pawan Katara RC coordinator too contributed a lot to make this workshop a success.

In Akal Academy Gomtipul, after the daily routine of Nitnem, students and teachers celebrated the Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Ramdas Ji with holistic Zeal.

The Programme was organised in the Darbaar Sahib and at the very outset of the Programme Shabad Kirtan was recited and poems were sung by the students of Class VIII A,B and C.

Senior students sung the shabad “Amritsar Vich Jot Jagawe” and mesmerized the Darbar Sahib with spiritual ray . Students also gave speech about the eminent life of Guru ji and then there was open discussion about it.

The programme acknowledged the folks about the distinguished life of guru ji and gave important lesson of following the religion steadfastly.

These are the well-known lines by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in support of the power of words and language.

In an effort to promote and add to the teaching skills of English Language teachers, Akal Academy Kajri Niranjanpur under the auspices of Kalgidhar Education Trust, Baru Sahib organized “Two Days Teachers’ Workshop on English Language Skill Development”.

 Two Day Workshop held at Akal Academy Kajri Holds on English Communication Skill Development!

About 59 English Language teachers from Academies of U.P. region participated. The workshop was sponsored by Oxford Publications, New Delhi. Dr. Vijaya was the resource person on the occasion.

At the very outset, participants, faculty guests, resource person were welcomed by the host Principal, Akal Academy Kajri, Mrs. Simran Kaur Thind. Later all the participants were briefly instructed by Mr. Ashok Singh Guleria HOD English/Head Coordinator and necessary details were given regarding workout schedule of the workshop.

Session I

Session I of the workshop began at 9:00 a.m. First of all participants were made to awake about the need of using appropriate speaking as communication skill. Through audio visual aids resource person later categorized the speaking skills Meanwhile discussion on the problems of children in language learning such as shyness, lack of proficiency, accuracy deficit were widely discussed. The resource person very efficiently suggested possible solutions to these problems. In the first Session, “Listening and Speaking Skill Improvement” tips were given to the teachers to use appropriate speaking and listening skills and tasks. Teachers were grouped in circle and listening skill activities were carried on for practice.

Session II

Session II of the workshop began after short tea-break. The session was devoted to Speaking Skill Development. At the very outset, Participants were given tips about soft skill development while student teacher interaction in classrooms. There was a very useful discussion on the role of function of English and how to express requests, invitations with proper pronunciation, pauses, stress and intonation. In this session teachers’ queries regarding speaking skill deficiencies among children were addressed

Session-III

Session III of the workshop was an amazing learning experience for all participating teachers. The resource person using picture stimulus, motivated the teachers to speak words. It was a brain storming round. Teachers were made to do loud reading with proper pronunciation, ascent and voice modulation. In the last hours of the day phonetics drill was done. High-frequency words, sight words were discussed and practiced by the teachers.

The second day of the workshop was dedicated to the learning of phonetics. This was the ever first experience of learning the teachers had in this workshop. Dr.Vijaya in very easiest ways gave phonetic skill drills to the new teachers.

She emphasized that speaking English is not a big task but speaking English with correct pronunciation and with fluency should be the focus area. By learning phonic sounds, students’ will be able to read and spell the words according to the sounds of letters.

She talked about 44 sounds (along with symbols) of English language. Many audio and video clippings were incorporated to make the concepts more clear. She also talked about the difference between American and British English. she reverberated the importance of pronunciation in the world of mass communication and for the students going abroad for higher study and jobs Teachers’ felt enlightened and refreshed after the workshop as the resource person dealt with all the nitty-gritty’s of pronunciation.

She also asserted that the phonetic transcript is as essential to learn as the order of alphabets in order to check the dictionary pronunciation. Last of all Dr Vijaya referred to and shared many useful web links to update and download useful language learning material for reading and speaking out of which podcast, BBC, ELT web content was shared with the teachers.

In the closing session of the workshop Dr. Vijaya emphasized on the need of use of teacher-generated audio visual to enhance listening and speaking. She asked the teachers to use library resource appropriately to inculcate reading habits among learners. In her thanksgiving talk, the host Principal Mrs. Simran Kaur Thind thanked the resource person for giving such a useful workshop.

Mrs Rangbir Kaur Cluster Head Akal Academies U.P. region, too thanked the resource person and asked the teachers to use the newly learned skills to the fullest in their classrooms. Mr. Phillip Xavier Media Coordinator, Mr Pawan Katara R.C. Digiclass too contributed to make this workshop a success!!

Akal Academy, Basarke has been built by the family of Dr Navjeet Kaur and Dr Gurcharan Singh, USA in memory of their elder; Dr Kharag Singh Sachdeva, who incidentally was the first Principal of Punjab’s oldest premier Medical Institute, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot. The blessed Doctor couple consistently endeavours to update the rural schools with new technology and recently they networked with Drexel University, Philadelphia to bring in their experts to the rural schools to impart Hygiene training to kids.

To control the problem of growing epidemic of tooth decay among children, delegates from Drexel University, USA visited & conducted a Workshop on ‘Oral Hygiene & Health’ at Akal Academy, Basarke (in memory of Dr Kharag Singh Sachdeva Ji).

Students of the Academy presented a small program, which included Shabad Kirtan, Rhymes, Skit and Spectacular Gatka performances in order to welcome the foreign delegates warmly.

The workshop focused mainly on Oral health problems and how to overcome them. The visiting faculty was exhilarated with the vibrant performances displayed by the rural kids. It was a great learning experience & interaction session for the students as they learnt a lot about Dental Care.

The experts presented a demonstration on how to brush teeth properly, and added that severe tooth decay is reported among children as young as three and in many cases is starting much earlier. Toothpaste & Toothbrushes were distributed to each student.

Stating that responsibility of Oral health should be undertaken by schools and community by expanding Oral Health education in curriculum, this can drastically help in reducing dental decay and ultimately improve the oral health of the rural population.
